M3A1 Half Track

This section is for builds that are not strictly Tamiya or Heng Long. For instance, replacing the electronics from a WSN or Matorro, or even a scratch-build.

M3A1 Half Track

Post by Maccrage »

I was getting ready to saw open the doors and armor visor on my Torro cab, when I had a brilliant idea.

Then only Torro parts being used are the chassis and running gear. I have the El Mod M16 board and a M3A1 conversion for the Trumpeter kit from Shapeways.

I do like the WSN/TORRO M16, when I was detailing mine, Doors and Armoured Windshield etc, I did a little research and I noticed that the M16 Armoured Windshield was hinged at the top with 3 hinges whereas the M3A1 Armoured windshield was hinged at the bottom with 3 hinges.
That's the kind of detail that catches out so many of us,
A bit like doing a build on an early Tiger 1 where the tow ropes are reversed and the turret has no escape hatch but it does have 2 pistol ports.
Be alert Britain needs lerts. :haha:

I am very interested and would love to see how you accomplish this build.

I have the Trumpeter kit and on the "prowl" for a Torro Halftrack. :)

I plan on trying to make it an open top. Build a compartment under the floor for the El Mod, and place the battery in the engine compartment.

If I remember rightly Painless combined a Trumpeter M16 kit with a WSN/TORRO M16.
And knowing his attention to detail you can be sure it was a build worth emulating.

If you go to
www.drawingdatabase.com
And click on Vehicles and then go to Military, click on sub page 10 scroll down and you will be able to download free blueprints of an M3A1.

Actually it's a T12. Based on a modified M3.

Doubtful since the person building it hasn't even logged into the site in over a year.
