Hi On my LCM I used tank gearboxes to operate the ramp one on each side if you use thee plastic gearboxes they have a clutch so they go till the clutch operates ,just super glue a cotton reel to drive shaft to wind up the rope. My ramp is solid brass so weighs more than most ramps .

That sounds like a good system, How do you get the power that far along the hull?

The winches are in the back of the boat along with the drive motors just run them off a cheap esc . you can see one here on this photo the other one is on the opposite side
