Taigen Full metal Chassis

Post by Bulldogger »

I am considering either the new Sherman or the older KV-1 if they get them back in stock. It seems that these are the only two that have a complete metal chassis, and what I mean by that is the others like the T-34/85 have a inner tub that is metal but it is not complete leaving a section of plastic that is unsupported. Any thoughts on these two? Quality of the builds and overall performance.

Kv1 has metal tube with plastic outter but everything's supported by the metal part. However the springs are too soft at the rear

Okay but it is a torsion bar set up so can you just twist the bars for more preload? Are there after market torsion bars for it? Thanks

There are after market ones but they're more than twice the price of the chassis. People have improved the situation but just a heads up improvement is required.

The torsion bars in my Taigen KV-1 metal hull were all of different stiffness; some were really spongy while others were quite firm. I shuffled them around so the stiffest ones sat under the gearboxes, and that helped to correct the sagging arse-end a bit.

Some of the other guys have used double torsion bars, or cut and rotated the torsion bar sockets, or made up new torsion bars out of piano wire. All cheaper alternatives to the expensive Corleis setup. ;)

Okay good to know. How about the suspension on the Sherman? Is that adjustable and are they using springs?? I see they states it as VVSS suspension are those springs inside the arm removable or adjustable, or are they good stock?? Thanks

I have one of the Taigen Shermans. It's is pretty much the definition of a tank. I've had no reason to change anything about the suspension.

Prime,
That is good to know, the reason I ask is I have a Mato all metal tank and for the price they charge I feel that the quality should have been better. My fault as I bought it a few years ago and didn't really ask enough questions. I have been hearing really good reviews on the Sherman and if I spend that kind of money I don't want to have to buy more parts to make it run correctly. Thanks your response was very helpful.
