Fitting Tamiya parts onto HL Pershing

Post by Blackadder123 »

Hi guys,

I have the option to buy a Tamiya Pershing turret and the road wheels and was wondering how well of a fit it would be onto the HL Pershing. The Tamiya roadwheels are rubberised, which is very nice, and possibly have bearings? There's also the upper set of wheels that support the tracks. Are they an easy fit onto the HL?

As for the turret, the metal gun is definitely the biggest draw... I could simply lengthen the HL barrel, but it would probably look too thick anyway... Now, if I do buy the turret, I see no reason to keep the HL turret if the Tamiya one fits the HL upper hull. Does anyone know whether the turret can be easily modified to fit? Seeing as HL "borrowed" the dimensions of the cast plastic, I hope that they fit... I could also just use a Tamiya Pershing upper hull, would that simpify things a bit?

And if I were to buy the Tamiya elevation and gun flash unit, would they work in conjunction with an aftermarket board like the TK22?

Thanks for any tips and merry christmas!

You might as well buy a tamiya pershing :)

You can get wheels that fit the HL with rubber tyres and a better barrel.

In fact, you can get a lot of improved bits for the HL from sellers.

Well, I could indeed...... but if I were to splash some cash my next priority would be a Sherman....
My HL Pershing does deserve some attention, too!

Do you mean that the tyres fit the Heng Long? I couldnt find the barrel sold separately anywhere, otherwise I'd buy it too.

Metal wheels with rubber tyres I believe.

Barrel from MK

Wheels with rubber tyres from aliexpress on eBay.

Not familiar with the taigen/HL ones as I have a tamiya one but someone should know if it all fits!

Good afternoon and Merry Christmas,
The Tamiya parts do indeed fit. My Korean Pershing is proof of the matter. Tamiya Turret and detail parts on a HL lower ( with various and assorted other metal wheels, parts and scratch built bits ) The barrel is a custom built one off from the General but I think that a couple of the German sites have the Tamiya Pershing barrel in metal. If not, check the AAF Museum site in America for a Tamiya sprue with the two piece plastic barrel, mantlet, etc.
regards and have fun!
Painless

P.S. Thinking back on this build, it was a _LOT_ of hard (fun) work ( not even adding in the fact that the Pup nearly ruined it the week it was done and I had to put another months worth of repair parts and work into it ) You would be well served to follow Ad Lavs original advice and spring for the Tamiya kit. It is one of their best, including lights, etc.
