Recommended Walk in Model Shops!

Post by Will01Capri »

Hi Guys.
Something I have always been on the lookout for is a decent walk in Model shop.
I used to live near Reading and Hobbystores was absolutely fantastic. But it closed a few years back to my disappointment. I used it as extra reason to drive South when I moved up to Dumfries.

There is a model shop in Dumfries run at a private residence, but it is not a proper walk in shop.
He specialises with RC planes, but can get anything ordered in on request. He carries good range of useful accessories for planes and TX/RX batteries and chargers. Very good advice.

I found a new shop in Livingston near Edinburgh yesterday when searching online. But it was a small shop and not a lot of accessories.
It was called Marionville Models. It says it specialises in RC models however it has a very limited stock. No doubt they could order in, but not worth travelling distance for.

Wonderland Models in Edinburgh is a great looking shop, but the range of accessories is very limited for RC as it is more geared towards selling kits or built models. It is still a great shop but unfortunately the staff are very unhelpful. One member of staff was just useless. We have been in several times and the same member of staff has been consistently useless and unhelpful. The staff are more geared around preparing orders for phone or online sales than customers in the shop. This is a real shame.

There is a cool model shop near Windsor, called Mantua models. T
The guy who runs it is very helpful and for such a small shop it has a great range of models. We have bought a lot of boat stuff here and it is well worth the detour when we are visiting down south.
It's a really good shop for static and RC boats. He also has range of planes, cars and other kits.

I am prepared to travel distance to find good model shops.
Please if you have any recommendations please post.

Apologies if this is not in the right area or if this is a duplicate post.
I just want to find good walk in shops to go visit and buy things from :)
In case it wasn't obvious this is UK.
But if anyone knows good shops in Aachen Germany or Erembodegem Belgium or Detroit US let me know as u travel these places aswell haha

There looks to be a good one in Dorking, but it was closed when I was there with work. Very impressive 1:35 German rail gun in the window.

Hi will,
Yes unfortunately so many model shops have gone in the last 10 to15 years. This is what the Web has done unfortunately. I have two near me All’s models and TJD Models both RC shops.Unfortunately it seams that most of the web vendors are upping there prices in time for Xmas!!!! Especially EBay. Brian...

I know i have been this model shop alot, but just went in this evening because i just love this shop on my travels.
Modellbahn-Center Hunerbein in Aachen.

I just feel like a kid at Christmas when i walk around this shop and keep seeing new things which catch my eye.

Right in the old square of Aachen city near the old town hall and the Catherdral.

it is a shame, but i still toying with idea of how i could make a model shop work. If i could that would be me going self employeed and living part of my dream.
We need to keep these places running so we can keep interest in our hobby. RC online shopping just a hollow experience. I love to see in person
