I tried downloading a few RC boats from Thingiverse, but soon discovered that they were either too big to make printing them worthwhile, or that the design was flawed. I therefore decided to do my own design, and make use of items that were lying around in my parts box.
I have absolutely no experience of doing this sort of thing, but took the plunge anyway. The EDF design was taken from Thingiverse as there was no point in re-inventing the wheel, and they were designed for 180 motors. This meant that I could salvage a couple from HL components. The control is via an RX18. This allows me to control the EDF's using the track controls on the RX18. The smallest battery I had was one of the new style HL Lithium Ion ones.
So here we are, a completely unique airboat, tested in the bath, and it floats, no leaks. The motor control is excellent, I can turn it on its own axis. Just brush painting it to make it look half decent, and will try taking it to a small local park lake sometime soon for a test. If it goes well I might think about installing brushless motors and esc's. The fan ducts slot in to mounts so I can remove them and swap in new ones at any time.

Yes, I will do that...though if it sinks without trace you may consider that the project was not 100% successful....
