M48 MBT – The Cold War Warrior – scratch built report
Introducing our new Project
Starting development in October 1950, after solving some shortcomings in the early series, the M48 got a successful design later in the 50ties. The M48 was used very successfully 1967 in the 6-Day-War by the IDF and also by US-Troops in Vietnam.
It wasn’t easy to (re-) design this tank in 3D, because almost everything is elliptic or round resp. “hand made” – very less reference planes
Some pictures of design process:
The model kit:
Again this kit is developed in cooperation with Christian Ludwig to increase his Portfolio
…recognizing the elliptic section:
Coming up … the assembly report…
Cheers,
Freddy

Wahooooooooooooooooo
This is going to be way cool, I have been wondering how this project was progressing. I have been monitoring Chris's web site hoping for some news.

Staggering design work for a start.

Chris will list the detailed M48, when available. I guess it´ll be this summer (late?), after my prototype is built and the optimizing is done.BarryC wrote:Wahooooooooooooooooo

Re: M48 MBT – The Cold War Warrior – scratch built report
Let´s start...
Postings in this report will be rough (that´s the topic of the assembly manual)…
Mounting of the bogies and bumpers:
Fixed centering in the lower hull for the upper hull and turret:
Some parts of the return rollers. Holes for 5 return rollers each side are placed inside the hull, if somebody wants to build an A2GA2-, A3- or A5-version.
The track tension device origin from Henntec, have to be cut a little.
The first steps are done

Lovely step by step - but the important question is the cost!

Thanks guys!
a little progress to report...
4 holes at each bogie allow different spring tension adjustment.
Parts of the bogie links…
…and just mounted (front and aft link the stronger tension are recognizable).
Dummy bumpers (can be activated with adding springs inside):
Greets,
Freddy

Complex shape to the hull, but very well done.
Great use of in-circulation suspension parts too.
