Hobby Engine parts

This section is for builds that are not strictly Tamiya or Heng Long. For instance, replacing the electronics from a WSN or Matorro, or even a scratch-build.

Hobby Engine parts

Post by Chris »

Hello everyone,

I'm new to the Tank world and also on this forum.
Recently I got a Hobby Engine Leopard 2A5. There is a problem though, the turret only moves one way to the side. When turning the other side, it does not do it how it is suppost to and makes weird noises.
I've tried to look for parts on the interwebs but to no avail.
Maybe someone here had some advice in this.

Cheers,
Christiaan

I'm no hobby engine expert but it sounds like the turret rotation assembly is bound up on something in the one direction. Have you taken it apart or have photos of the turret rotation assembly?
Tanks alot....

Here are a couple of pictures.

and a video

The turret should turn 360 but the one side that it turns, it stops at 180 degrees and then the gears start to malfunction.
Also, on the end of the video you can see the tank gets an impulse to drive while I only pushed the button for turret rotation.

It appears that the gear mechanism to the turret rotation final gear is stripped and "skipping" I think you can remove the rotation assembly and look inside to confirm thisImage

Good morning,
This same issue happened with a Hobby Engine Abrams that I had given to a friend to sort of seed feed him into Tanks as a Hobby. The issue was resolved by buying a replacement gearbox from Hobby Engine.
regards,
Painless

It seems the turret only turns 180 degrees so the wires don't tangle up.
I will take it further apart to check.
Here is a video of the side it does turn to. When pressing the button for turning the other way the motor doesn't respond. https://vid.me/TAcz

About the parts, I haven't been able to find a site where they have a good set of any Hobby Engine Tank parts.

Okay great, I'll do that whenever I've pinpointed the problem so I know exactly what to order :D
Still, I think this can be a fix without the need of spare parts :haha:

Update and fix

Post by Chris »

So, I've made an alternative fix and gonna stick with it.

The only problem there was basicly was that the turret only turned left but not right.
So with a friend a little more familiar with electronics we've measured everything we possibly could.
The problem wasn't in the button of the remote.
The problem wasn't in the motor of the turret.
The probelm wasn't in the wiring.
The pins on the main board just didn't get a current.

So, now we've switched the wires for tilting the barrel up and down (since there are 2 buttons for the same function) for the motor to the turret.
Result is I've got all the functions but when the turret turns the machine gun sound is also activated as well as the light on top.
Since I don't feel like buying a complete new mainboard I'm gonna stick with this configuration.
Next time I'll probably purchase a Heng Long ;)

Thanks for the support!
