kugelblitz
I've been having a play with my new 3d printer and although is not fully calibrated ivr e printed off some bits to see how it's going and started my kugelbkitz turret to mount on my hl Panzer 4.
I don't think the turret ring will be big enough for the inner turret to rotate properly so I may have to make a bigger one to fit in .
For some reason I can't upload a picture off my mobile at the moment so that will have to wait but cramming a recoil and such into the small turret is going to be interesting.

Sounds very interesting. Check out the Nashorn thread from AlwynTurner on the forum. He is a 3D print master and is currently building a scratch Nashorn for a customized Panzer IV hull. Maybe you can bounce ideas off each other.Scrub Tanker wrote:I've been having a play with my new 3d printer and although is not fully calibrated ivr e printed off some bits to see how it's going and started my kugelbkitz turret to mount on my hl Panzer 4.

Great start Scrub. You will find that you will need to fill the layer marks that the printer leaves as it deposits the layers. It also depends on the print layer thickness you specify. I tend to use .15 or .2 mms for prototyping but change to .1 mm for the final print as it gives a much smoother finish so not so much filling and sanding. You may also find that printing a 5mm wide x 2mm thick 'rim' around the inside base of your print will add strength and assist in joining to the next component - possibly also at the top for the same reasons. where the gun ports are you are likely to have weak points as printed components fracture easily along the deposition line, so it may be worth adding vertical strengtheners, even if they are only 2 or 3mm thick they will greatly strengthen the result. If you need any advice or if I can assist in any way then please pm me.
Good luck with your new printer and have lots of fun

Carl is over egging a bit , there are a number of Masters of 3d printing on the forum (e.g. Woz and wibblywobbly), I am relatively new to 3d design and print so very much at the steep part of the learning curve.

Re: kugelblitz
Alwyn I absolutely agree with you. There are many masters and masters in training on this forum. In all different aspects of the hobby.
It just so happens....
You are one of them
I really do admire all who take the extra effort and time to create their own parts.
Also those who take on the rare and unusual projects

OK, for some reason I can't upload picture from my phone. But I've printed too and bottom halves of the turret ball not detailed but the basic shape and I think it may need to be a mill or 2 bigger as the fan around the outer turret looks a smidgen big.
I've also skimmed and sanded the outer turret so it's smooth and level.
I'll try to get some pictures up this weekend

Re: kugelblitz
i have been at work on the kugel but also spending a lot of time just staring at it.
printed a replacement top deck to take the turret as it dips into the hull. i may have to print the final one a mill or 2 wider to get the right gap between the inner and outer turret, the outer is skimmed and sanded and im pretty happy with that for now. before i do any more im goint to order a shaft ad a pair of bushes to support the turret.
