Got to say Mr Barry that your level of attention to detail must be borderline of madness !!!
I expect to see a functioning gas turbine pop up in your thread any day

I think you may have missed cutting out the drain channel on your drivers hatches lip. If not I'll :silent:
This pic clearly shows what I mean.

I have the same computer rendering and actually I had/have plans for the drain and have marked it's location but stopped at the last minute before cutting it out.

I have more pictures of the hatch with the added flange without the drain path than those with it. I am wondering if it is a M1A2 feature and not a 1A feature. The pictures I have with the drain are known M1A2 pictures and those without are M1A1 and a couple that are unknown.

Any help making the determination will be greatly appreciated.

The real fun starts when he cranks up the engine. 1/6 stuff I know but nothing is impossible in this Hobby

Really couldn't say for sure if all the M1A1's originally had no drain cut, but I'm sure that if they did not they were either field modified with a grinder ??? or had the hatches replaced. I will have to look through all my old pictures to see what I can find
Will get back to you.

You seem to be correct
After looking though a few hundred M1A1 pics not one has the drain slot cut during that time period in Iraq. good catch on that little detail.
Now I wonder when that modification to the hatch was made as both m1A1's and A2's where in Iraq at the end of our involvement there during that period and the A2's were I believe for the most part rebuilt A1's :S

Thanks for your help and conformation GG!

Like I said I was ready to make the slot. But a little voice told me to look again at the photos as neither the Dragon nor the Rye Field Model kits have hatches with the drain path. It would not be the first time that more than one manufacture had gotten it wrong either!

Started "hacking" on the engine and cooling exhaust section......going to be a lot of work!

Cheers,
Barry

Since your the first to do a M1A1 out of the HL M1A2 everything you do will be good info for others who may want to do the same change  , but I'm sure in a more basic way, like doing the commanders copula, leaving off the APU and CITV.
Merry X mas. :)
