Re: M36B1 Tank Destroyer question
I seem to recall reading somewhere that once they realised that the Germans were exploiting the weak spot, they started welding their own roofs on using any sheet steel that they had. It could possibly be the frame for the canvas roof that they used for weather protection, but I can't find any pics of one?
Found an excellent source of videos while I was looking around

Re: M36B1 Tank Destroyer question
I am only now starting to notice small details, from the web pics I have seen. The front mounted aerial and the rear mounted travel lock are two things, there may be others?

Re: M36B1 Tank Destroyer question
Tom H. What motors are you running in your M36? Also how is the Mato suspension perform? Thanks!
Re: M36B1 Tank Destroyer question
As will I it seems (I have one too awaiting TLC) - unless they were front or rear mounted perhaps (how many were made altogether I am woundering, I know the initial run was 500?)tomhugill wrote:Good spot on the travel lock, will have to move mine now
Re: M36B1 Tank Destroyer question
Tao, I don't know how tom has found his but the suspension on mine works very well. It is of course the earlier VVSS (vertical sprung) type). All the road wheel have rubber tires and each unit (three each side) has two independent steel spring, excepting the front most units nearest the sprockets which Mato has double sprung (so four springs in all. This does tend to make the rear of the tank feel disproportionately soft sprung but it all works just as it should with no binding or tight spots on the wheels or guide rollers, etc. It look really good too bumping over the lumpy bits in the garden!tao wrote:Tom H.
