Well the BF 109-G6 was the first to fly with the cantilever tailplane (no support struts) and the MG151s in underwing pods but the MG 151 Mod was often carried out in field workshops especially on the Russian front on a number of different ME 109 sub types,
But the -G6 was the FIRST Official variant. B|

You got it. 1943 BF-109 "Black Devil of the Ukraine". Is what it was listed under. I can get you better pics when I get home if you like. What else did you need to know about it?

I was looking for the Jeep.
When FDR coined the phrase "The Arsenal of Democracy", he was talking about Detroit. Proud to live in the 2nd most violent city in America!!

Shaun, if ya luv me you'll never again use the term "ME109". It's the Bf 109, and that's one of my pet peeves, since an ME109 never existed.

And the Bf was for Bayerische Flugzuegwerks (which I probably totally mis-spelled). Bavarian Aircraft Works.

Gary Would you be offended if I offered a history lesson, The Bayerische Flugzeugwerke was owned by an extremely politically shrewd (For the time and country) gentleman named Willie Messerschmitt,
With the success of the BF- 109 and the much vaunted but over rated BF- 110 Mr Hitler "suggested" to Willie that the company's products should carry Herr Messerschmitt's name in future and so the early BF 109 became the ME -Bf- 109 and all the following designs also had the new name.
If you insist I shall search through the paperwork to offer a reference.
The politics of German contracts for major projects meant that Herr Heinkel's ( A politically naïve fellow) He 280 the worlds first twin jet fighter which first flew on April 2nd 1941 was offered to the RLM (Reich Luftfahts Ministerum) with a view to going into production, it was rejected in late 1941,
Meanwhile the politically astute Willie Messerschmitt first put into the air on July 18 1942 the Me 262 and an initial contract for 13 pre-production 262s was signed in late spring 1943,
Because of Mr Hitlers desire that these would be Bombers they had to be redesigned making it 4 months later than scheduled before the Me 262 entered service in early summer 1944,
The point being if Herr Heinkel had any political nous he could have been making twin jet He 280s in 1942 and the allied heavy bombers would have suffered far greater losses than they actually did due to the late introduction of the Me 262 into service.
