Sdkfz 222

Post by Model Builder 4 »

Hi guy's,

I was lucky enough to purchase this little beauty recently, it is the Andrew Design sdkfz 222, it's not a runner yet and that's where my questions begin Image it came with the motor and housing so I now have to get a steering servo, esc and a few other bits, I'm hoping to find something that would be compatible with my spektrum Dx6i. I'm wondering whether it would be possible to use off the shelf parts like the servo and esc or would it have to be the right kit to go with it Image I would just like it running really , no need for sound turret movement etc, so any suggestions or a point in the right direction would be much appreciated,

Cheers, Lee

Lee that's awesome!

Great find mate. I'm sure a few will be able to help with motors and servos to get it running.

Photo of the inside space?

Thinking about it, if it's 4wd like my hummer you'll just need a motor, servo, esc and receiver. You'll be able to run it with the dx6i easily.

Hi Adam,

There's no problem with the interior space, it's an empty hull so loads of room to fit everything in,

Yes I think so Adam, it has already got the original brand new motor and mount with it so I would need to find a compatible esc and servo to suit the motor, I'm not really clued up with electronics so that's why I'd like some advice on what might be suitable for it,

Should be able to get any esc and receiver.

I'd use an AR400 specktrum ground receiver and a Tamiya TBLE-02s esc.

I do that with all my softskin armor and boats, etc.

Go to Hobby King and grab an Orange Box Spektrum Rx, Turnigy 30A car esc and a Hextronix HXT900. Probably less than $25 total (don't know in Sterling...)
What, me worry?

Hi!
You have very good looking 222!
As for board, I'll try to mount in Elmod M16 half track board in my next Sd.Kfz 223 build. It has turret rotation, gun sound, barrel elevation etc. For my Sd.Kfz. 222 now I'm using Elmod board, that is possible to buy at xion.de. One more possibility is Asiatam Opel Blitz board.

Thanks for the replies fella's I've just fitted the motor mount and both the mounts for the servo and battery, all fit nicely I've hooked the shafts up to the axel shafts and all turn smoothly. Would it be possible to get an esc to go with the original motor in it ? Is there anything I should look out for with them not working together or are they all compatible. Thanks Eddy it is a very nice looking sdkfz, I've got to add a bit more stowage and things to finish it off.
