changing to LiPo
LiPo is clearly at the heart of battery technology at the moment for vertualy all rc application's, as my heng long bulldog gets fatter and heavily laden with metal parts the old nickel packs are just not cutting it any more.... far less run time, and power delivery etc
Who has made the switch to LiPo? Well I have tested the waters....
I have 27mhz RX18 board.. running on a 2s 7.4v 30c 5000 Mah tests was done with gearboxes out and no load on the axles.. ran at relatively slow driving pace for about 10 mins... I found that the RX18 was stone cold as was the battery pack, the motors were warm but that is totally normal.
I am how however wondering what it will be like with my new 4.1, 18000 rpm hop up motors and boxes, along with metal tracks, wheels and suspension parts going to be with all the added weight climbing up a hill or going through rough ground......All this resistance will get that pack pushing more amps though the RX18... and if LiPo is good at one thing that would be it's burst of power that can be delivered..
Thoughts people on switching to LiPo?

Alright dude, I did the switch to lipo's ran 30c 5000MaH batteries through an rx18 and 4:1 gearboxes with no problems for past 4 months, really consistent run times. Highly recommend them to anyone much better than my old NiMh batteries

Re: changing to LiPo
I use lipo alarms of ebay, there only about £1:50 and plug into the batteries balance port, when the voltage drops they bleep loudly to let you know. Do you have a smart charger that can do lipo's? As its really important not to over drain them or over charge them dude

Re: changing to LiPo
yes I have a propper balance charger set up I am into RC off roaders etc so LiPo is the norm for me, just curious to see if it would set fire to a heng long haha.... all the ESC I have come with low voltage cut off etc so never thought about an external one before,
Many thanks
Many thanks
Re: changing to LiPo
Hi I will be changing over to lipos soon , as the old ones come up for changing. First ones will be the tanks running IBUs as the ibu is voltage sensitive (if you have a drop to 6v it stops)also the IBUs have lipo setting, so no need to fit alarms.

Re: changing to LiPo
I've got a Tiger 7000mAH LiPo for my M1 with IBU2 Pro.
Is it possible to use a LiPo with the stock HL electronics that came with the M1 (I think it's version 2)?

Re: changing to LiPo
Yeah as long as its a 7.4v/ 2s battery and also best to use a cheap lipo alarm that plugs into the battery balance port so you know when the battery is low and don't over discharge it, hope that helps
