Alpha,
I did a quick bit of research and the US Army still uses the collapsible canvas bucket. That or plastic 5 gallon jerry cans for water. Otherwise, the humble metal bucket still looks pretty much the same. Some few of them have a molded or stamped spillway made onto them now.
regards,
Painless

Was out meandering around a favorite flea market yesterday before a local meetup and found this fellow. He should work on the StuG as a crewman as soon as I change his piping from pink to orange. Pictures:

Re: 1941 StuG III Ausf B
Ad Lav, Definitely, in good time. Today, I wanted to pursue how to make the left over machine gun circuit and led useful. I had originally thought to use the bipod mounted MG34 and the box of ammo and goodies for this but the recoil and flash unit really does take up 90% of the roof. I didn't want to try to drill through the mechanism. There just aren't that many spots to safely bother on it. Looking around the vehicle, I noticed the large view slot and thought that it might be easy for a crewman to stick the business end of an MP40 out of it and say hello to attacking infantry. There were two along with spare magazines and stick grenades stowed right to hand on this version of the StuG (which did not have a factory installed MG like later versions). Pictures:
