1/16 scale sandbags

Hi all! I have found these sandbags on EBay, http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/181712723839?nav=SEARCH, and was just wondering where they would be positioned? I have a Panther G and imagine they would be placed around the commanders cupola, around the driver and gunners hatches and possibly some around the rear of the tank. Do you guys agree or maybe you can suggest better placement
I do also wonder how I will secure them in place, maybe use some glue (possibly avoid that) or maybe some 1/16 scale rope?

Put them where ever you want. To hold them in place I'd use a dot of hot glue that would hold them in place and still allow them to be removed should you want to and wouldn't hurt the tanks finish.

For best reference have a look at real placement of them. Its pretty rare to see them on the Panther and Tigers though. Stugs could be found with concrete on the front, there is an example at Bovington. There was a single king tiger which had concrete around the base of the cupola.

Just ordered some myself, sticking them on the front of my Walker Bulldog with fishing weights in them to balance this back heavy tank.

Fill them with putty to mood them to shape on the tank.

Thanks for the help guys billpe, thats something I didn't know I've tried looking for reference pictures of the Panther G with sandbags but they seem pretty hard to come by, so you're right about them being rare Unless my search criteria isn't very good haha Although it's looking to be rare that doesn't mean sandbags were never placed on a Panther, so I may still get them, they might end up looking quite good, guess there is only one way to find out

I have seen thousands of photos of Tiger tanks and I'm sure that I never saw a sandbag on a single one of them.

Why buy them. They are easy to make if you have some very thin cloth. a squeeze bottle of heavy duty fabric glue and real sand. Just cut the cloth slightly oversize to the finish size you want. cut the cloth long enough that it will be both sides of the finished sandbag. Run the fabric glue half way down the cloths very outside edge and fold it over pinching the glued areas tightly. Let dry for at least a half hour then turn them inside out using a pencil. you now have a sandbag that's empty. Fill with sand loosely and glue the open end shut or tie with sewing string. If you made them big enough you will have a sand bag that can be placed wherever you want and since they are flexible they can be placed around things or piled up just like the real thing. The fabric glue can also be used to hold them on.
I don't think Germans used the sandbag as an armor addition in any pics I've seen. The American tankers used them a lot

I have bought several hundreds from him. filled them with sand, then steep them in dilluted carpenters glue, put in on place and wait for the glue to harden, they will become rock solid.

but they were never issued to panzers, this is only to be seen in allied tanks. We use them in the lot of defensive possitions we are building for our club's yard
