White Tiger

Post by PainlessWolf »

Good Morning.
Finally found a copy of this film and am looking forward to viewing it this weekend. The Tiger on the cover looks like a KV with the expected sheet metal mods and turret (along the lines of the ones in Kelly's Heroes where I believe that t-34's were used). The real treat will be seeing all of the authentic Soviet Great Patriotic War armor in use. The storyline is intriguing as well. A single Tiger tank used as an antagonist for an entire film. *rubs hands together* ;o)
Regards,
Painless

There's no Tiger in this movie. They really used, I think, KV-1 instead. But it seems, that there were made an replica of Tiger for this movie:

Good Afternoon,
That's a great looking replica! It is sad that it will not be in the film. Hopefully it can be used for a future project that we can enjoy.

Good Morning,
Dragooned the Mate into sitting down and watching this with me this Friday Night past. The filmmakers managed to make a movie already rife with excellent Soviet depictions of the horrors of war even creepier by adding a "dead" and crew less Tiger1 and an undead Soviet Tank commander who spend the film squaring off against each other. The lend lease armor shown in a lot of the scenes as well as the german armor used and shown destroyed will make this a very interesting watch from an armor buff's P.O.V. They easily make up for the cobbled together Tiger, some of the over loud sound effects and the film sort of winding down before the end. Perhaps we are being set up for a sequel using that excellent Tiger1 replica that they never got to use in this one.
regards,

Got it off amazon, it's not a bad film, some cool tank action, however the tiger is terrible! It's a shame they didn't use the nice one they were building.

I heard that the Tiger replica wasn't ready in time for the filming, so they build a fake tiger on an Iosef Stalin mk2 chassis. The first movie posters for it had an early style Tiger with some minor alterations on it. Later posters came out with the one in the movie on it. The replica is a late production Tiger I think, but had the early style wheels still.

A good number of the tanks were replicas in the film. The PZIV was on a T-54 chassis and some of the lend lease tanks were replicas, the M3 was I think, can't remember what else.

I really enjoyed the movie, there was a large collection of armor, ISU-152, BT-7, PZIV, Matilda, M3 Lee, SU-100, IS-2 and even some ZIS and PAK guns and of course the T-34s. Lots of accurate uniforms and weapons too. The maturity of the combat was nice to, a lot of "war" movies dumb it down. The combat was brutal and watching the "villain" Tiger fighting was ghostly and terrifying.

As far as tank movies go this is one of the best imo. The Tiger looks ridiculous and that's my only complaint.

The popular tank game, World of Tanks ran a promo event for the movie in which 15 T-34-85's fought a single White Porsche Tiger super buffed.

Watched this on your recomendation. Some nice Tank porn. They justify the odd looking Tiger by saying its a prototype, which makes it a little better when you see it. Well worth a watch :)
