1tank 2controllers

Post by mike1268 »

Just an idea, esp for those with younger kids. Was thinking about putting two sets of radio gear in a tank so one person could be the driver and another could be the gunner. As I said before, would be a good way for kids to get involved if they were the gunner.

What's your thoughts?

You'd need 2 transmitters and 2 receivers. Which would mean you'd need a tank with enough room to fit 2 receivers. Its doable and easily reversed so that the tank could go back to a single user. What the heck go for it and have fun.

Yup, two transmitters and two receivers, plus two ariels.

You would not be able to switch from dual use to single use though.

Why?

The wiring would have to be split between the boards.

Motor wires to one, turret controls to the other, so plug the two motors into one board and the 8 pin into the other (smoke unit would need to go into the same one as the drive motors).

The only way to revert to single use, would be to transfer the 8 pin to the other board.

The Kodiak AEV that I have built has three RX18's, and three receivers, I can switch between the RX18's by swapping the crystals on the transmitter, they need to be started up independently, but after that they can be used randomly simply by swapping crystals back and forth, the same effect could be achieved by having three transmitters.

Can be done with out modding tank electronics. Presumably using fm receiver and rx18.

2 controllers on same crystal controls same tank. Therefore one control disconnect the right stick pots on second controller disconnect left stick pots. Now left with a controller which only drives tank and another which only works turret.

Well yeah you'd have to go back into the tank to take out the second board and re-do the wiring back to normal but its not that hard to do.

I would go with Tankbears solution, but just have two transmitters, one RX18, one receiver etc, all wired as normal.

Have the same crystal in both transmitters, one child uses the left stick on their tx, the other uses the right stick on theirs. That way no rewiring, and only another transmitter and a spare pair of crystals to buy.
