Hello all, I am brand new to the forum and even newer to the world of RC tanks, I haven't actually purchased an RC tank as of yet although I am literally looking as we speak, due to finance and being new I plan on a Heng Long, with my sights set on a Tiger. Id like to jump straight into the PRO version. Id really like a robust tank as I plan on using often on rough terrain, grass, mud, and sand (the usual) and wondered if anyone could advise me on which tank would best suited for this type of use? Thanks all! P.s, there are some awesome looking tanks on this forum!

A good pro version straight of the box....is Heng Longs Panther G, I've sold mine now but I remember having no problems with it what so ever.....

Welcome to the Forum! That's a hard question to narrow down and answer properly. Research ( and the limitations of your wallet ) are going to be your best indicators of which tank to get. Heng Long makes a basic Tiger 1 that can be enjoyed right out of the box then upgraded slowly as you learn more and go along. On the other end of the spectrum, Companies like Tamiya and Taigen offer Tiger 1 kits that are very complete ( tho' things can be upgraded even there ) but will need to be built before use and are much more expensive as expected. Which ever way that you go, ask questions and do the research and you will not go far wrong.

The all tend to work on those surfaces but it's a question of how long for before you need to service them. HL can be hit and miss, sometimes the plastic is brittle, other times it's not and the pot metal gears can strip but they're fun while they last. Taigan is more reliable but they're pretty expensive for what you get but are quite robust and there support is good. Tamiya is a little different as it's getting into hobby grade stuff. If you're on a budget you can often pick up second hand ones with a radio for a fairly good price and they last years without maintenance.

welcome to the forum desert, my top 3 are king tiger, tiger 1 and jagdpanther, if you can, i would look at ebay and see if you can find one thats been upgraded properly. The new pot metal upgrades wear quickly eg the pro versions, if you can find a good secondhand that has blacksteel gears and decent metal tracks go for that, or buy a base line smoke and sound and do the upgrades yourself with quality aftermarket parts from the likes of forgebear who is great to buy from and can advise you.

Thanks for the speedy replies guys! So, is there anything I would want to keep an eye on with the Tiger or Panther? Specifically repairs? Which parts aren't so reliable etc? Silly question but is there terrains I should avoid? Apart from completely submerging it in water. With the winter drawing in id like to know if snow is a complete 'no-no' and if shallow puddles are to be given a miss also! Apologies for the continuous questions, just didn't want to have it giving me problems I could have avoided. Thanks guys!

Hi Desert Rat, Ex 7th Armoured perhaps? Welcome to the Forum, before you spend money please look at the BLACKLIST so that you will know who to avoid then go to the RECOMMENDED Dealers and make your choice from those, I agree that FORGEBEAR is absolutely ACE and a good place to start, Ps Avoid wet sand but snow is fine. shaun

Hi jarndice, I'm personally not 7th armoured, I am a former airborne gunner with (7RHA) doing OPs with the paras, the name, desertrat, was inspired by my grandfather who was himself, a desertRat!
