There are a lot of Tamiya kits out there Richy... one guy in japan was selling one for 150...it was the old model didn't have internals... but really that's just about all you need...just keep an eye on ebay... they pop up all the time...on the old models..the plastic and suspension is all the same...the only thing Tamiya changed was the gearboxes... now independent instead of the old clutch...and better electrical parts :D

PS... thought the auction was over...not bad deal on a Tamiya King Tiger

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tamiya-1-16-RC- ... 58b385b09e
not the greatest of condition...but not the worst.... it does seem to have the old drive system in it :D

The electricals is one of the things that set them apart, you definitely want the new DMD units! You can get a KT or Tiger for £350-400 if you look in the right places.

Thanks for the info on the convoy light, when i am ready i will convert it to a lighting unit along with the front headlight.
I got my kit from Tankzone for £529 and free p&p and then purchased the radio gear from ebay.
I still have a lot of gear on order and in the post for the kit as what you see here is just the start.the idea is to get it built and then add to it and so far it is going fine.
I have added pe parts to the build but i am not using all available as i think for a working model it would become to fragile,i am already having a problem picking the thing up without catching some parts and it becomes a bit of a pain in the backside.(for me anyway)
Ok on to the latest news.
The basic model is now done, all electrics are built and in place, upgraded turret rollers are in and work fine and i am at a point where the tools, cables can be painted.
The turret can now have pe parts put on it and i may place the track hooks on the turret but this is one of those things i am worried will look great but last 5 mins due to getting caught by my clothing and ripped off.
The side skirts have been modded to allow me to take off any section i fancy,so i can change the look of the tank at will.
Handles and hooks are to be scratch built for the upper deck and the top of the turret.
I would like to locate a smoke unit for the model and i am looking into upgrading the sound unit but the sound is not a mod i intend to do now.

In the background is another Tamiya Tiger. It is the old or Vintage kit with the single motor and i gave £100 for it and it works fine now i sorted out a clutch issue.
It has some minor exterior parts missing but nothing to scream about. No sound,no gun elevation but they drive fantastic and so if you can find one in your price range i would say grab it,,,you can always convert it to modern equipment.

Anyway,ty for all the info you guys have given me and i will be back soon :)

Tim

Tim, Hi, I notice you deal with TANKZONE, please do take care, I was ripped off by them and I was under the impression they were a decent company and that everyone else was wrong about them, they seem to derive pleasure from taking you for an idiot,if you can get your bits and pieces elsewhere you will find them to be a lot cheaper. Whatever, do not spend more than you can afford to lose at any one time. shaun
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

Hi Shaun
sorry to hear that something bad happened to you.i would hope it turned out ok in the end.
I have to say,i did only order the tank from tankzone and i had absolutely no issue with them at all.
I guess issues can happen with any company but it sounds like you payed for something and never got it?
After i ordered my model,i sent them a email asking for confirmation of the order delivery date and from there i sent a further 3 or 4 emails to them about other gear and i always got a prompt polite reply and i was also given a tracking number for the kit.
The one pain i did have was the model getting stuck in customs and parcel force wanting £32. for import duty or tax or what ever it was.
I again notified tankzone of this and was told they will pay the duty or i could pay it,collect the model from the depot down the road and they(tankzone) would refund the money.
Well i payed the £32 and mailed tankzone to tell them this and i got my refund within a hour of that email.
I am glad you gave my a heads up because i was looking at ordering a tam Panther/sherman or tiger 1 from them.
I will have to think about it now as i do not have money to lose, :(

Tim, I gain the impression you have yet to scroll down to the BLACKLIST, I would recommend that you do and soon, you will read of many a Forum member who has been ill served by TANKZONE and I fear other dealers who give us a hard time. Please take care. shaun

No matter who you got it from Boogle...main thing is you got it with no hitch.... I do concur with Shaun though... and tread carefully with TankZone... there was a dissatisfied customer posting here just a month ago

With that said... on to your KT .... she's coming along very well... nice job on the zim ...really stands out with the primer on it
I feel for you on the smoker.... I just ordered new stacks... for my KT as that is my up and coming project ....it's too bad Tamiya never made any of their tanks with that feature ....they really shouldn't call their models full function :haha: ;)
