El-Mod General Basics

Hi,

I do apologise for such a simple question but pretty much every website treats me as an expert modeller and does not explain the basics. Hopefully, you will have the patience...

I am building a Tamiya King Tiger and upgrading it over the stock elements at the same time. I got most of the "mechanical" upgrades that I planned to fit in (suspension, gearboxes, engines, idlers, wheels, etc.) but I recently discovered the existence of El-Mod and realised how many of R/C tankers use it. Just to be clear - I don't know what El-Mod EXACTLY is.. Is it a total substitute to the Tamiya electronics and steering modules (DCM etc.)? Does it add more possibilities and features (e.g. future planned smoke & lighting system upgrade)? Does it upgrade the whole sound system too?

I read that in general El-Mod is for more advanced modellers but (since I don't consider myself to be super-thick ) do you think I would be able to connect all those wires together and make them work?

I'd really appreciate any help here as wherever I go I find abbreviations and shortcuts of technical features I'm not familiar with (yet).

hi there if you pm tankbear aka ian he does a board that is so much better than the mfu system i have one in my tamiya kt and its so much better sound and movement just look at what he has to offer and then go with whatever suits your needs

The Elmod system does allow for greater flexibility than the Tamiya Tamiya electronics that come with the KT. In fact there is almost no flexibility in the Tamiya system for that tank but the pay off is Tamiya electrics are remarkably tough and very high quality. Elmod allows for customised engine sounds, configuration in the tanks behavior, it's compatibility with some Tamiya electric systems. One feature to me which makes Elmod stand out is the more realistic movement that can be added.

The latest versions of Elmod are also high quality and the guy who makes it is fairly responsive to questions. I'm not sure of the value of replacing the Tamiya electronics in a Tammy KT with Elmod, its something that holds more value when replacing the stock electronics in HL or similar tanks.

On the Elmod site there's some good data sheets on what it does compared to other systems. Well worth a read.

With so many systems popping up now day's It can be hard to choose. Price and ease of use and features differs from all.
As mentioned above, I also find the tamiya really tough and very high quality. The drive is really smooth, but the same engine sounds in many tanks is a little downer when you start to build up a tank Collection.

I looked at the Elmod, but landed( at least for this time ) on a Clark tk KV Board + tbs (benedini) sound unit. Why the Clark KV when I have several tigers and jagpanther + king tiger you ask well since I want to be able to swopp the system on several tanks, I found the Clark KV sound pritty god, so when in my KV I will most likely use the standars KV sounds from Calrk Board. If used in the tiger/KT/JP I can choose from the allready pritty good sound files provided With the TBS mini.

It's also quit fun to make own soundfiles for the thbs mini.

As you can see I have programed the sound unit+throttle so the engine starts tu build up before tank starts to move.




I also got this Nice little amp fron YHR/DAN Battle armor . It has some 15W and volum knob, over the tbs mini small 1,2w internal amp With fixed sound level. Will test it out this weekend
