Surprisingly enough Lister...there are several documentaries on specific tanks out there... some are boring .. some are not ..this one is not bad... I focus on the imagery more than the commentary.. it's not bad...but a little redundant ... next step would be to locate nice images of specific variants...then picking and choosing which details to use
Not going to go too heavy on this one...I think Heng Long did a pretty decent job ...the only problem I've found so far is the handle on the engine lid...it constantly get's knocked off when rotating the turret... fixed that with a metal replacement that drops out of the way into the hull ...so pretty minor stuff Imo :D

Have a good one lister

Nice find Alpha, great video! So you are researching to do a historical build this time? Late war or early?

yep, it was an hour well spent
not sure why your handle is catching on the turret though,
as mine is level with the little raised box on top of the engine deck & misses quite comfortably.
maybe you've put the wrong handle in there?
mine measures 6.85 mm x 13.7(not including the ridge for it to sit on)
does that help?
cheers

LOL... I would know if I could find it lol.. found it was missing after I played with it.. made a new brass one ..and it knocked that one off too...so I just reamed the holes bent a new brass handle so it would hold if I pulled on it...and fall back into the hull figured it as a "field" mod lol...it works fine ...looks like it was meant to be like that :haha:

Thanks for the info though... I may not be able to use it...but anyone who has the same thing happen could

If I could figure out a really good reason to do a Historical build.... I would do one...but I'm going to be sticking with my Girls Und Panzer guns ...The Panzer is the main player in the anime.

What you must remember Jnewboy...is that anime is not just a cartoon...In the case of Girls und Panzer... the story carries a lot of historical base...the artists that did the CG graphics used Tamiya 1/35 scale model kits for reference and inspiration ...so everything is prototypical

Reason I enjoy it... as there is a reminder of what tank battles were all about... but without the imagery of blood and gore that a Historical build carries with it

I have the greatest respect for this point of view ALPHA.

All credit to you, I always like to watch your builds, as I learn from each and every one. A build is a build after all. I enjoy looking at something a little different too, even if my particular interest is in the more historical. There is always something to learn about this hobby.

Carry on the good work old chap

Hello Scalawag...it is one part of doing research.. and as you know I did a lot on the last two Shermans ... even if the founding inspiration was to mimic the tanks of an anime..didn't mean they were just something tossed together ...it just wouldn't do... and not honor the person who helped me get them to the finish .. but also the memory of those who designed and used them in battle
I'm sure many people have read the book by Belton Y Cooper... here is a video of him telling part of the story
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wB-VOMriqw4
unfortunately it's the darker side of the Hobby... but it is part of it.... the book by Cooper... is a reflection of his experiences with the Sherman... but ..you have to be certain it was the same with other tanks too... I've found photos of tanks totally ripped in half... the turret literally splayed open ...basically saying people ...men..who drove these things into battle died a most horrible death. ...trapped in a can...doing their job

In Girls and Panzer... what gets past adults who view it...is how real the situations are... several of the battles were based on actual battle strategies... there are references to Historical Generals and take you truly into the tanking world... showing the inner workings of a tank...how they communicated amongst the crew...and crews...and how sometimes thinking outside of the box victory can be achieved

As Historical documentation will always point out... in a tank battle it was kill or be killed....Now if a person who watched Girls Und Panzer has this in the back of their mind... you can see just how risks sometimes pay off..but at what cost...in the anime the Girls survive.... in a real situation...the crews would not live to tell the tale afterwards

I'm not sure if this clarifies my point... but if I had to come home and proudly look at a perfect historical build everyday...at one point I would wonder... or perhaps even think about how powerful or weak the tank was... how many soldiers lived and died because of it.... yes it is just a plastic toy tank...but I prefer Positive connections to them rather than Negative

With that said.. I still can respect those who do enjoy the Historical aspect ...the skill ..as well as craftsmanship that goes into it...as I've done it before... I know what it takes... but that was a time when I had little understanding of War....it isn't till one actually sees a man screaming with his arm blown off ... body parts strewn about randomly from an explosive encounter...the blood ooze as you watch a comrade fade ...there is nothing pretty about War...though there is beauty in these tanks..War machines ...but from my modelling point of view....a more civilized aspect of them

Always a Pleasure Scalawag :D

I understand, I actually enjoy fantasy and alternative history also. I remember a comic book series that was out a few years ago called "Luftwaffe 1946" which depicted girls flying jets like the Ho229 against US B-29s as they bombed Berlin. It was very cool and a fun read. After all the men are dead the girls carry on the fight, seems to be a common theme in alternative history.
