Re: Panther Ausf G looking for HL info.
Good morning, Panther,
Your tank is far, far more advanced than mine. There is no sound at all or programming available on the 3841. I am glad to hear that the 3841-1 has a standard set of functions including main gun flash and machine gun sound. On the 3841, the main gun muzzle just glows red and the gun goes up and down when activated. Your Sherman makes an excellent base for a build. The tank tracks still work well without the center guide horns. I have been using a set of the new ones on my 3841. Aside from the odd voice on shutdown, *chuckles*, you are on your way.
Regards,
Painless

Yours sounds like it has the ABC switch ... a much improved model as Painless said
Sorry for being silent Panther...I guess I'm just excited to see what you do with this...especially since it's a smaller scale and I didn't want to intrude on your convo with Painless
I can't wait to watch the build..

Have the best day

Hi Guys.
Had a couple of days catching up on DVD’s with the T34’s giving terrible impersonations of the Tiger1 in Kelly’s Heroes and Saving Private Ryan.
The M47 as Kt’s & M24 as Sherman’s in the Battle of the Bulge.
Shake yourself it’s only a film you were supposed to be entertained.
It’s surprising how critical we are when the choice is, watching films like those, the rubbish passed off as entertainment on TV, or the miserable weather through the bedroom window.
But I did run through some of my modelling technique DVD’s. So not totally lost time.
ALPHA.
I am sure Fearless would not consider input by you as an imposition.
I am very grateful to Fearless sparing valuable time to offer help and advice. Especially with a very detailed project running a daily build log. Like many others I’m following every post in admiration.

Good Morning, Panther,
It's good to see you back up and around. Thank you, sir for the praise and compliments. They are appreciated. Alpha knows that he is welcome everywhere. *chuckles* Speaking of your build, I just got in the new tracks for my 3841. They are the same as the ones I ordered a year ago so I will spend some time here soon, clipping out the center guide horns. The plastic feels oily and has a metallic odor so who knows, maybe it will last longer than the last set. The initial tracks on the tank lasted some nine years. The replacement set, only one. I feel that, like the 1/24 scale, this tank is large and complicated enough to warrant a plastic pinned set or even a set in actual rubber. I don't know that Heng Long will ever see enough profit in it to put such a thing out but it is nice to think about. ;o)
warm regards,
Painless

Re: Panther Ausf G looking for HL info.
This is the reason I have never built a Sherman, as ALPHA said because there are so many variants it becomes soul destroying, just when you think you have the whole range covered up comes another, but it does not stop me watching the builds as they progress, more power to you sir. Talking about films I cannot be the only person who has had a film ruined because of the wrong equipment, the unforegivable substitution of a King Tiger in The Battle of the Bulge and Ice Station Zebra was ruined for me when the enemy (Soviet) aircraft that flew over were Mcdonnell Douglas F4 Phantoms!!! and then in Top Gun F14/15s versus enemy A4s? for goodness sake take a leaf out of The Longest Day and splice in library footage, the colourisation process that is now available makes it so easy which indicates lazyness to me. sorry a long overdue whine. shaun
I think I am about to upset someone

Yes very annoying jarndice perhaps we should have a Whinge or Soapbox thread for all our little irritations to be aired.
Back yesterday only to loose my internet connection for 12 hrs. all looking good today.
I have looked on the net for the HL 3841-1 there seems to be several variation of this model. Packaged in
various different ways.
Mine was in a box like this.

and packed like this.
Edit: - I Forgot to add in my instructions it identifies this model as "Special type 3841-1"

Re: Panther Ausf G looking for HL info.
Good Morning, Panther,
I spent an hour last evening sharpening up my snipping pliers then clipping off what seemed like hundreds of center guide horns. The new tracks fit just like the last set of new ones (tight) I tested and they run well but I think it would behoove me to run some sandpaper down the the insides where I clipped the guide horns just to make sure that any nubs are gone. The standard edge guide horns on these newer tracks for the 3841-1 are shorter than those on the original 3841. You might consider leaving your center guide horns in place since your version of the tank is designed to run with that specific track. Pictures:

Re: Panther Ausf G looking for HL info.
Hi Painless thanks for the info.
I was thinking about taking out the centre guide horns and filling the gap between the bogie road wheels with P38 to make them more realistic.
Before I do the clipping I will measure the height of the outer guides because just by feel there doesn't seem to be much in it.
Still undecided a nondescript Tank Dio, or something with more detail like Hurricane!

Re: Panther Ausf G looking for HL info.
Yesterday model wise nothing happening, it was my annual visit to hospital.
To-day we have heavy rain on and off and cold, so no change there.
The Sherman.
Tracks removed.
I took the upper hull off, it only gives access to the circuit boards and wiring, changing anything in there is not on my agenda, it has been restored as is.
The road wheels are off, the only advantage there, if I decide to fill the gap it will be much easier with them off. Also be easier the paint the lower hull.
