Re: Main board
Diesel, good morning,
Doc, you should take this as an opportunity to upgrade your old version Tiger 1 into an Uber Tiger like the ones Torro or Taigen sells. Start with a 2.4 GHz set (TX and new RX-18 and speaker) and change the wiring ends on your electrics to plugs and go from there, (Smoker, metal add-ons, maybe an Asiatam hull or IR turret) and with some work and parceling out the stuff you want to buy, you'll have your dream Tiger 1 in no time. Plus, you get the fun and satisfaction of building it yourself. I have two old Tiger 1s and in the coming year, one of them is going to get this work done so I can have the Afrika Korps Tiger 1 I have always wanted (without paying 700+ U.S. for a Tamiya Kit) Good luck whichever direction you go in.
regards,
Painless

Re: Main board
Definately the way to go, swap out the existing board and get an RX18, assuming that you don't want to upgrade the electronics/sound for a little extra cost.
Rewiring looks complicated at first, but do things one step at a time and it all makes sense. There are wiring diagrams on the forum to show you where things go, and you can buy a complete wiring loom for an RX18 if you need one.

Re: Main board
Hi Diesel,
+1 to the opportunity to upgrade to at least an RX18..... The old units were always 'marginal' at best and of wildly varying quality.
The money that you would spend on the unit is probably not worth it. Modify the RX18 to fan cooled and it will take most things that you can throw at it without any problems.
The earlier Heng Long boards ARE available ( on ebay ) but I think that they are now used in the 1/35th scale tanks where they probably have an easier life hauling around a much smaller and lighter tank.

Re: Main board
Yes indeed ... I agree with everyone... if there is anytime to mod the internals..it's when stuff breaks.. knock on wood none of my old tanks have failed as of yet... but if they did ... that would be when I would change things out
