My Tiger Tank Project

Getting some sweet upgrades together to further enhance my old battle bucket.
After paying more attention to the Elmod’s sound effects appeal and driving physics I decided to treat my tank with new electronics and a more versatile hobby grade radio to make it all happen. The Tarr smoker is an experiment as I’m not usually impressed with smoke units.
I also have the DKLM PDSGB/Slow version gearbox on the way. I bent the shaft on one of my Taigen 4:1 boxes and it just isn’t quite corrected all the way. It bugs me.
Anyway, I’ve got hobby plans to keep me busy during my state’s “stay at home” order. No problems getting tank goodies shipped from overseas.

I do agree that the Heng Long physics aren't very realistic, my Tiger turret turns way too fast.

I’m way down south in Wolf Lake. It’s pretty much across the Mississippi River from Cape Girardeau, MO which is my hometown and Rush Limbaugh’s as well I don’t know of any nearby clubs so I just carry out backyard maneuvers with my Tiger and Leopard. I will now digress so some may wish to quit reading here but I’m going crazy with caronavirus crap (being a “healthcare worker”) and need a diversion. I go for slow deliberate movements and technical driving over certain stones and through certain tricky areas of the garden area. I want to build some actual battlefield style places here and there including a bridge and some natural barriers like a trench or steep climb.
Back to my build! I was able to download the Elmod App today so later this evening I will play with the settings and volumes and what-not. I still need to figure out how to change/modify switches and joysticks to do what I want. Right now things are pretty backwards on the sticks. I want all tank driving on the right stick and turret movements on the left stick. Then I need to figure out how to activate the awesome sounds available by assigning switches. I’ve gotta figure out how to customize my Taranis QX7. Hard for me to find out how to do this online.

Healthcare worker? If you don't mind, can you tell us what you do?

Physical Therapist. After almost 30 years of it I feel as if I could use some myself. Some of our younger female therapists have to take off work because their children’s school is now closed. Therapy coverage is getting a little strained. If things get worse we will probably pitch in and help with more basic patient care if needed as well. Things will get better soon. RC tanking is among my favorite stress relievers.

Wow! This Elmod board is a blast to fiddle with when connected to the Elmod app. I was only able to spend a few minutes messing with it but I think it will be very fun tweaking all the settings. Still need to get my joysticks figured out.

Slowly learning the ways of ElMod and Taranis QX7.
In the meanwhile, I finally realized what type of engine crank jarndice was trying to explain. A photo on page 87 of the Haynes Tiger 1 Manual shows it perfectly. A picture is worth a thousand words for sure. Anyhoos here’s my version cobbled together. Also the Aber detail set for the early roof vent arrived yesterday. Yay for me!

Looking good so far, Jimster. Impressive. Most impressive. You know how you can do text in italics or bold or whatever? We need a Darth Vader feature for when you say things like, "Most impressive".

Anyway, still got that bent shaft in the TG gearbox? I can send you a new replacement, no charge. I can throw a few in a padded mailer and get them there for way less than the price of a beer, which is what you owe should we ever meet, K? PM me and we'll work out the details, or just send your address and I'll send a pair of 48 and 58 mm, which should cover all contingencies, eh?

Hi, Glad you understood what I was going on about,
A word of warning, When I fitted it to my Tiger the first time it ran on rough ground even though the starting handle ran freely in its clamps allowing it to swing the handle grounded out and bent,
I remounted it so that the handle was turned through 180 degrees and a cable clamp secures it.
