rockets

Post by doc larsson »

Hi

finishing off a seafire fr47 with folding wings and was wondering, would the aircraft be prepped with arms etc below decks and the outer wings lowered above deck ? Would the wings hydraulics etc be strong enough to have rockets mounted on the folded-up wings ?

cheers.
ps just bought a 1/24 spit as well !

Hi Doc,

To answer your question, yes all arming and re-fuelling was done below decks so as to keep the upper decks clear from clutter in case of an emergency scramble or landing.

The wing hydraulics were that powerful that they could lift a fully laden car if so perched.

Hope that helps.

Matt varnish your decals first then varnish the whole thing.

Don't forget if you are having the wings up, you need to put hydraulic leakage stains on the under wing near the connection point as these used to leak like a sieve.

Use gloss varnish as the were painted gloss to aid airflow slippage and aerodynamics.

Hi Doc,
If you have painted the airframe gloss the decals will go straight on but if it's Matt you will have to gloss varnish it first then put the decals on when dry a coat of Matt varnish. I'm in the process of doing my 24th typhoon  lots of rockets on her :haha:. Brian...

One of my favorite configurations of the Spit

Image
this one you can see the racks small load...looks like two per wing..or one bomb on either side

As far as the decals go...yeah pretty much what everyone says...gloss sealer ...then decal...the flat overcoat ;)

Use acrylic floor polish for the sealer. It's much cheaper and runs through an airbrush straight away no thinner. Then decals and then what ever finish you want to use as the last coat.
