Here's some pictures of the 1/48th scale aircraft I've been working on lately. These are ones that I worked on the missiles when I was in the Air Force.

F-106A from the 49th Fighter Interceptor Squadron stationed at Griffiss AFB, NY

F-106B from the 5th FIS, Minot AFB, North Dakota. Has the AIM 4 missiles out.

49th FIS bird with 2 WSEM's. Weapon System Evaluator Missiles. These do not launch, but record signals on photographic paper.

5th FIS A model. The stripes denote it as the Squadron Commanders aircraft.

This is an F-15A from the 5th FIS, after the conversion from 106's to 15's. This one is the Squadron Commanders aircraft.

Here's some more, just different angles and a B model F-15 thrown in.

B model underside. The rear missiles are infra red guided, and the forward pair are radar guided.

F-15 A and B models. The major difference is that the B model aircraft is a 2 seater.

They're not the real thing?

Beautiful models, and a terrific achievement  :O A question: if you're manning the remote controls, who's taking those pin sharp pics (with fast shutter speed and telephoto.)?... :D...and you'd also need Shiva's arms to manage two models :D

Yep.

Models.

1/48th scale, to be exact. It was a nice afternoon, so I decided to try and get some pictures against the sky. Took a step ladder out to the side walk and found a spot with fairly few trees and power lines, then set it up. Just placed the stands on top of the ladder, then stood on the sidewalk and used the camera on my phone. I've got it set to a lower resolution, so I didn't even have to resize the pictures to get them to upload to the forum.

I thought that the pictures looked pretty good, but the stands and tree tops just blew the illusion. So, a bit of tinkering around in MS Paint, and "Bob's your uncle"!

Here's a couple of before and after comparison.

The kits did come out pretty good, but I think it's the flying pose that really sets them off. A tank looks best when it's in the dirt and covered with mud, so it stands to reason that a plane just looks better at home, in the air.

So maybe I should have kept the "how to" to myself? :haha:

I did come up with a few new things to try on my next outing. Thanks for all the great comments!

Very nice indeed!

I think the "Six Shooter" is the best looking delta wing design on all time.

We had the "six shooter" mod on all our 106's. The 20mm gun pod did look pretty cool when it was installed. It blended in pretty well with the overall shape of the plane. The 106's even looked fast just sitting on the ramp.

...Privately, I thought there might be a touch of photoshop in there; but nonetheless the pics are beautiful staged, and a tribute to your skill and endeavour, Bill
