I try to double and triple check connector polarities and usually solder them on as soon as I cut the originals off.



And I still get them wrong occasionally because I am dumb enough to "know what I am doing."
I even made a quick cheat sheet :)

I just keep a permanent marker around or a paint pen and mark each cable and connector with a + or a - before I desolder it.
