BB Firing issue

I bought this Panzer G model and the rubber sealer in the BB unit went south on me so I ordered a new BB unit. Got it all in and wired up. Just as I was putting it back together I discovered the black wire from the 2 wire plug had come loose. I originally soldered it to the manual shutoff switch by mistake. Dang thing would not fire. So I looked at my KT and rewired the unit as that one was. When I first turned it on the unit would not fire a BB. All of the buttons on the transmitter worked, MG, Smoker, Cannon sound w/recoil, turret moved left and right, up and down, but the BB unit would not fire. I then moved the left joystick down and all of a sudden the BB unit started firing continuously. So I rewired it again thinking maybe the solder came loose. No go. After that episode the dang thing went into I am not going to work again. I replaced the little Brown piece, must be a capacitor #104 (I had an extra from the old BB unit) and still nothing. So I am at a standstill. Here's some pictures of the pre and post configuration.

I think I am just going to buy a complete turret and put all of that into the turret on the tank I am working on. Somewhere I have burned, miss-wired, or something that has junked the unit.

Not entirely sure whether your HL MFU board is actually the latest (I have no tanks with HL boards in now), but it looks to me as if the two pin connector from the Gun (in your PIC 1-Top) is in the wrong place. On Taigen boards, and I believe HL boards as well, the two pin connector should be on the two right hand pins of your five pin connector. That is pins 4 and 5 from L-R. You have it on the 2nd and third (LH) connectors, I think.
It's hard to tell from my iPad, and with my aged eyes.
Check this diag out (below) and there are many more wiring diags to access through the 'Search' utility, Steve.

Note the position of the 'Trigger Line' socket. That's where your two pin connector should go. At least, that's definitely the case on Taigen MFUs (basically the same as HL :)
This socket triggers the recoil/gun sound etc., and completes the circuit to the microswitch. If the gun's already SNAFU (hopefully not), they don't cost all that much. Just be careful next time and use the wiring diags here before reaching for the soldering iron... An entire prewired turret might be an answer; but it will be more expensive than an airsoft unit, and will still have to be connected correctly....
Sometimes the gun will misbehave if the three pin connector from the gun is inserted the wrong way round in the 8-pin/adaptor connector block. :problem: It's always worth flipping the connector round (180 deg) to see whether the gun springs to life, when it's connected that way. Now and then it will..and it's like gun viagra.. :D

I never thought about turning the 8 pin 180 degrees. Wait - I misread that - the 3 pin connector turned around 180. I will try it though. I have tried the 2 pin unit in every configuration in the 5 pin area and it doesn't seem to make any difference. The cannon will fire, with track recoil but no bb, if I use the cannon button on the transmitter unit. The MG works, turret turns, elevation, all but the bb unit firing. I figure I must have wired something wrong, and I did look at the diagrams here, but who knows.

I ordered a complete turret and will make sure it works before I change the guts in the original unit. It was only $45 US shipped so it could be worse ya know? I used to spend more than that just looking at speed catalogues when I was still building race cars.

Thanks for the assist -
Be well,

I looked at that 3 pinunit - I would have to cut that piece apart to turn it 180. I could, I think with trepidation, change the outside 2 wires around.

This video from Erik (aka 'Taigentanks') may help a bit:
phpBB [video]

In another video he points out how, on occasion, the three pin connection has been wired incorrectly, and needs to be reversed.. Yours has a tab, but the connection point could still be reversed. I think that was in the video he did on wiring a Clark TK22 board in.

...and here's the Taigen version of an airsoft wiring diagram (freely available from the Imex/Taigen website  )

You can see where the 3-pin plug is supposed to go, and how..if reversed it would seriously after the gun's firing algorithms..( :D )

I had an old rx-18 board that the smoker portion had quit on me. I hooked the unit to that and it fires fine with the new bb unit and electrics. And the smoker doesn't work on the Panzer "G" model either ;D

So it's a bad board, I most likely burnt it while soldering up the connections, it's how I ruined the smoker on my King Tiger. So I ordered a new board and it should be all good to go then.

Thanks for all the great advice, pictures (you know us Marines can't read all that well), and great support.

Be well,
Steve
