ElMod to new generation HL turret cable?

Post by tankgirlfuzzy »

Some of you may have seen my thread in the general area. I'm now equally interested in the Elmod Fusion pro as I was in the IBU2U, but still trying to figure out what's needed and how plug and play these boards really are.

My question is: I have a latest generation Heng Long MFU with the gold sticker in my King Tiger. I know for a fact that if I plug the turret cable into the IBU2U it will short it out because they apparently changed the wiring a while ago (the IBU manual tells how to deal with it). Is the same true of the ElMod Fusion Pro? Nowhere in the current manual does it say I need to change anything or rewire. All it says is "The ElMod Fusion provides a HengLong® compatible 8-pin turret terminal (connector 1)." But rctank.de sells an adapter cable specifically for Elmod/IBU turret cables to convert it for you. This really confuses me as it seems an unsuspecting buyer might fry a new board simply by plugging in the HL turret cable without modifying anything because nowhere in the manual or on the Elmod website does it say this is important of necessary. IBU does make a point of emphasizing this. It would seem a pretty major oversight buy an otherwise careful and reputable company if they have neglected to mention it.

Can anyone shed some light on this? It would be great if I don't have to rewire anything or buy an extra cable.

Thanks much!

The only experience I have with "Elmod"Products is the board they make for the M16 Half-Track so I am unable to help you,
If nobody here has the answer to your problem I suggest you email Thomas at Elmod and explain your problem to him,
It is worth knowing that the Heng Long company is an established Toymaker not a Hobby Specialist,
The electronics were always suspect until the arrival of the "RX18 MFU" but it was a dead end as far as development went,
Which opened the door to outside upgrade makers offering much improved MFUs which were ostensibly plug and play, With the demand for their RC Products increasing and Taigen (Once an offshoot now a competitor offering better electronics) Heng Long have recently been forced to make changes to their MFUs,
The changes came much quicker than before and the aftermarket upgrade suppliers have had to decide to invest in new products or leave the market,
It is a game of catch up for them and a lot of money can be made or lost very quickly especially if Heng Long overnight change the PCB wiring of a particular product without the upgrade makers being aware of the change.
Unlike before, the wiring between Heng Long and Taigen now is quite different so the after market makers are in a quandary,
We are in a transition phase and as a builder it is annoying,
I can only imagine the frustration of the upgrade makers such as IBU, Elmod and Clark and I am better able to understand why Kevin ceased making one of the best MFUs "The AST".
Good luck with your search.
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

Just email them directly at the support address on the El-Mod website - Thomas speaks excellent English and is usually very quick to respond to queries like this. He might not be following the latest HL developements, so your email might be a timely reminder that he needs to look into this.
