Apparently wheels were taken off for when there was lots of mud, can anyone substantiate this? I’m guessing it would be battle damage and lack of spares, cheers

There's a mention here of removing a front road wheel to cope with muddy conditions. Check in the Archive here, as there are instances of the topic being discussed, as well as examples of Tigers with the leading outer roadwheel removed. Removing fenders/mudguards, I guess, would have been another option:

Truly detailed information on the Tiger 1's development (evolution), configurations, and career can be found on these two worthy sites:

:D I was hoping you'd chip in with your seminal (in the sense of influential :D ) Tiger 1, Jim. Any Tiger discussion should include it as a matter of pure routine.

Translation of engineering assessment--
The front Torsion bar arms tend to bend under load,
Consequently forcing the outer road wheels to damage the inner wheels.

Corrective,
The basic material of the torsion bars will be improved,
When extraordinary stress due to rough terrain (Tree Trunks,Rock Fragments etc) occurs The front outer wheels should be removed.

I hope that gives some clarity.
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:
