B-17 Plane crash here in my home state

Post by c.rainford73 »

Sadly one of the few remaining air worthy flying fortresses has crashed here in Connecticut. I've spent time in and on this plane as it comes to my nearby airport every year and does passenger flights. I've been there to see it with my wife and children.

The story is developing at least 5 fatalities.

Sad indeed. A living museum of sorts, my 10 year old daughter was told about it after school and was upset. She visited it many times with us.

Maybe although a tragic accident with the loss of life, the time it did serve as a living museum touched the lives of many including my daughter. Possibly this new generation who saw and touched it will be left a little piece of its history ...... maybe all who visited including these children will remember it.

Here are a couple of photos I took last year on the runway after visiting hours. Such a majestic piece of aviation history ImageImage

Irreplaceable. Do you put them in cotton wool in a museum or do you fly them? My head says museum, my heart shouts fly. A strangely beautiful plane. I've built many a model of them and still, like most modelers, have a couple of unmade ones. Yes, a favourite.
