LIONS TOUR NZ 2017

Post by HERMAN BIX »

Im glad to be alive every time a Lions Team tours New Zealand..........and the contest is living up to it.
A less than confident start in the first game, but just now, the Lions have just lost to a low ranked NZ Super Rugby team in a technically challenging & poor conditions game that was a clever learning curve.
I just hope that this match has not educated the Lions enough to allow them to beat my team- The Crusaders- in Saturdays epic in Christchurch.
Phill Bennet, Andy Irvine, Jenkins, the legendary JPR Williams, McGeechan,Gareth Edwards, Quinell.............those and other names bring a genuine tear to the eye for us that know that Rugby is far more than a mere game when the Lions tour..........

I was very close to asking the Moderators to condemn the anti British rant from some foreigner going on at great length about how wonderful his team of bully boys who won by deliberately using unfair tactics such as being fitter and all round embarrassingly better at another game we invented, :lolno:
Except I had been occupied with more important matters such as throwing up in a bucket at the rubbish rugby I had just witnessed, otherwise I was about to extol the virtues of a BRITISH Cricket Team that TROUNCED nay THRASHED the Black Caps at another game we invented.
Nice work Herman some promising young players in your line up,
Shaun.
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

I quick scan of the current All Blacks line up, shows that more than half of them are sporting British and Irish surnames...with heritage to match ;)

Good grief Mr 43rd !!...........thats as bad as the Aussies trying to claim foreign nationals for sports or musical glory regardless of their origin !!
Can say though, that many have surnames that take a while to say and longer to spell !!

I have memories of watching those great Lions players with my dad on a saturday arvo at a 2:30 kick off and feeling I was witnessing something that would be an immortal legacy..................
Sadly, with the advent of professional sport, that immortality of men that wear those jerseys seems different today............. :problem:

Bloody brilliant to have your finest on tour, best of luck, & may the best team with New Zealand passports win ;) :shifty:

It's probably best for all of us if you don't open that can of worms: https://www.newsroom.co.nz/@rugby/2017/ ... s-scotland

And for the record, Crowded House had as just many Aussie band members as Kiwis and was formed in Melbourne ;)

And what are the names of the Crowded House band members? :D All British and Irish. Someone once said " You can be born in a stable, and it doesn't make you a horse'..just as you can be born in Australia, or New Zealand and it doesn't make you Aboriginal or Maori. :)
What puzzles me, is that in the US you see the Irish still calling themselves (proudly) 'irish', even after five generations; just as ex-scots in Nova Scotia are devoutly more Scottish than we are. Yet, when folk emigrate to the Antipodes, they become something else almost overnight. Just look at Julia Gillard (but not for too long :haha: ..); born in Wales, then fervently something else; just like Tony Abbott. Can life here really be that bad here? Or, do they just want to be supporting winning teams? Well, it certainly can't be the gnat's piss 4X, or that other awful amber stuff in a tin (Fosters). As it happens, judging by our Olympic performances, they might have made a gross miscalculation :haha:
Anyway, Scots specialise in losing heroically; that's something we do almost better than anybody else

And yet more of my heritage is being claimed by those Claymore wielding Whiskey imbibing Scots,
My fellow countrymen have striven long and hard over many years to gain the title of LOSER and we will not freely give it away,
I am prepared to grant you the heroic part of loser though,
We are rather better at the Whinging kind,
Ask any Australian :lolno:

AAAHHHHHhhhhhhhhh................the satisfaction of knowing Im a New Zealander born of free immigrant Irish stock - O'Neil- Clan of the severed hand, domiciled in the convict state of Australia by choice , not by verdict of a judicial system !!! :D
(I have a saying when pressed for sheep-tampering heritage............you came in chains- I came on a plane !)

Sport now is really that made up of a mix of mercenaries and money grabbers.
Neither of which I respect.
Sport is about where you were born & bred, and most times thats what comes out in the emotional moments.

My guys play the lions on Saturday & that is a lottery...............my guys need to win the Super Rugby final, but beating a touring Lions team-as important.
Lions will be WELL hurt after losing to the Blues and they will rebound.
We need to win, but reserve ourselves to win the super tournament :problem:

Ahh, bugger the Super Rugby- we get that every year, but BEATING THE LIONS 8O
HEEEEEeeeeeeeellllllll YEAH @)

I must say, I really like the sound of 'Herman O'Bix"...
Enjoy the macho grappling, HB, and hope life has been kinder to you in recent times, than it was a wee while ago. This wish, of course, doesn't extend to the All Blacks trampling all underfoot >:<
