Post by JD_Skyline »

Hello all. My name is Joost, 50 an living in the Netherlands. After years of RC racing its time for a new challenge.RC TANKS....I like modern tanks...the M1, Leopard, type 10 and T90...but I wouldnt turn the great Panther down. I dont own a rc tank...yet.. thinking Leopard 2A6... dont know yet. Will a Heng Long Leopard 2a6 be good start and upgrade it gradually?
Hope to learn a lot from you about rc tanks..mainly on electronics hajaha

Have great day..

Hi Joost Welcome to the Forum
I know of a Dutch dealer in R/C Tanks but I have lost the address :( Perhaps "Soeren" can help?) Of course not far away is Dom @ http://www.rctank.de who is a top dealer in all things R/C, For all matters Heng Long I suggest you go to www.heng-long-panzer.de/
I remember a cold windy rainy day many years ago driving from just over the border in Germany to Zandtvoort to watch the Dutch Grand Prix,
I must have upset somebody because they stopped Grand Prix racing in Holland shortly after :shh: ,
But it is coming back I believe,
Enjoy the Forum and please do ask lots of questions.
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

Hi Jarndice. Thanks for youre welcomeImageunfortunately I dont know a dealer by the name of " Soeren" but will do a broad search hahaha. Image let you know when I found it.
And like you said Dom is not far away so ordering from Germany shouldnt be a problem. Already had a look...great shop..
Yessss in 2020 there will be a grandprix again in Zandvoort.
We'll see how that goes...probably a lot of rain and wind.. but nevertheless great..
What kind of tank(s) do you drive? Just curious...Thanx again...

Joost My mistake "Soeren" is one of our Dutch members who specialises in Panthers <
My Tanks consist mainly of Panzer 4s of different variants as well as Tigers and other armour as well as trucks and cars and larger scale Aircraft.
The two biggest problems are space and money and most of us do not have enough of either :lolno:
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

Space and money are always a challenge. The panzer 4 is a great tank. Like the "H" and "G" variants a lot. With zimmerit
Hmm like a lot of tanks.. als the Tiger. Panther...hahaha I dont own a rc tank yet and already like to many types of tanks. But will stick to modern... as soon as I own one I will share it on this forum.
Did you upgrade all your tanks?

Hello and welcome to the forum Joost

I have the Heng Long Leopard 2A6, it is a good runner. But as Heng Long can be hit or miss, it all depends on who in their factory assembles them, to whether they run properly or not. That being said, some of their tanks are better than others for the assemblers to get right.

As for upgrades. The Leopard has a few, but they're mostly metal upgrades, tracks, sprockets and wheels. And if you ever get metal gearboxes, make sure they are the steel variety, because the pot metal ones are no better than plastic, and in some cases worse.

The only other thing, the chassis may require stiffening up after such upgrades.

Enjoy the forum.
Mick.

Like many of us I get the Tank out of the box and check everything is unbroken and in working order ----------And then I strip it down to the absolute basics and build MY Tank,
The target with the PZ4 is to build at least one of each variant, the Ausf F1 through to the Ausf G, Ausf H and the Ausf J are pretty easy with lots of upgrades available from places like "Shapeways" as well as Dave @ www.forgebeartanks.com and www.heng-long-panzer.de/ and lots of other sites.
Right now the choice of MFUs (Control Boards) is just about as good as I think it has ever been although the best board the ASP2 is presently out of production.
The Ausf A through to the Ausf E are a little more challenging.
I have ceased buying complete Tanks instead I buy a turret here and a (Metal) hull there and a body elsewhere as well as a different control board,
Research is vital and interesting and I cannot recommend it enough if you intend to build an historic replica,
Of course you could go the way of a long lost member of this Forum (The General) and build brilliant Tanks that really would not ever be seen on a battleground but definitely made me smile.
Just remember it is your Tank and we will always offer advise but we will never tell you what to do with the advise.

Like I said in the previous post to Mike, im lookin at some Leo's and M1's but there is a lot to choose from :haha: and I have to decide what I want to spend on a tank!
I know that I want tanks that are as close to the real thing as possible.. that also goes for the way it drives, turns etc... That is my challenge hahaha So research, like you said, is a must. Also for you... thanks for the advise !!!!

Joost, when Mr jarndice refers to "The General" he's using a pet name for a former member called ALPHA.
Just thought I would clear that up :/
