Hi fellow Tank enthusiasts :D I am a long time r\c model Tank Hobbyists (+40 years). My Father was in the US Army and was an ordnance specialist (one of his many titles) as a career military man. As a kid, I was exposed to a lot of military hardware in the US and EU. I am a man of many interests but Tanks and modern mechanized warfare have always fascinated me. I hope to share some of my humble modeling efforts and ideas here with other of like interests.

My avatar shows a 41 year old model of a early production Sherman model Tank that I had attempted to convert to radio control back in the old days or early days of my radio control journey. That attempt was less than successful and the Tank was severely struturactly compromised in the attempt. It was then later used as a prop in a firecracker Tank battle and was further damaged (30 some years ago) but I kept the remains in my model scrap yard and recently scrounged one of the intact drive sprockets off the model to use on a Sherman Tank that is still running in my collection that needed the part.

I am not a purist or scale person these days as I focus on mechanical\electronic aspects of the hobby as I am a retired electrical designer. I have been told my models have a Frankenstein like quality and that's Ok. Some of the older ones do for sure as I was a avid modifier of my models trying to achieve maximum off road mobility and that resulted in lots of non scale "upgrades" :wtf:

So..Here is a youtube video of my "running Sherman" shown in this thread.

Hello and welcome to the forum Robert

I'm sure you'll fit in well, even with mad scientist creations (hopefully you're not Sid from toy story ;) )

Enjoy the forum.

I guess I forgot to mention these are 1/35 scale. The late model Sherman is a Tamiya. The early model Sherman is unknown at this point. Never thought to save the boxes back then. :'(

Hey Mick  Yes I am a member of rcgroups.com and started the Tank forum there years ago but do not get much response there as the good people there seem to be into LARGER SCALE (1/16) stuff as it is a lot easier to work on I guess. I do not have room for that scale in model as I have many models of all types and also fly electric r\c planes\Heli's etc. These days I like to run my models on the kitchen table.

No worries about your scale, we love RC model tanks, I'm actually fascinated with what running gear you have, and also, is there not room for the battery inside?

Plenty of room for battery's and such but this Tank is being retrofitted with new gearbox and is going through trail of refit phase. I never leave the battery inside the tank as they can sit for long periods and the batteries can damaged the inside electronics and wiring. Most of the times you will see the battery on the outside of my models just a habit I guess from fixing damage from nmhi\nicad batteries. This is a very old Sherman and it sits more than runs these days so battery is on outside :D

Yes that running gear is a mystery ??? It is very smooth and precise yes? It is also scale like in speed and will run for more than an hour non stop. A picture is worth a thousand words so see pictures below Sun of a gun-ner B|

Wow, thanks for taking the time to show me

I always find the small running gear fascinating, I can then get ideas of how to use it in other smaller 16th scale models ;)

Thanks again, much appreciated.

Your welcome. Good to see someone besides myself cares about "the smalls" ;) Talk about small, here are a few pictures of my smallest radio controlled Tank..not sure of the scale. A US penny is used to give an idea of actual size.

The radio gear in this small Tank is being analyzed to see if improvements in tracking can be made as the Tank wanders and will not track a strait line. Battery life and run time is also poor. Experimenting with series vs parallel motor wiring as time permits.

Lol, that is small, I have a couple of 64th scale RC cars (hot wheels size) and an articulated truck (rig) possibly 76th scale.

My smallest tanks are 24th, but I only have a couple of them.

On this site we have many people that are into other sized RC and static models. It's good to have variety
