Hello from one mile up!

Post by RubiconRanger »

Hello! I appreciate the wealth of knowledge on this forum and thought it was time to join instead of just lurking around. I'm currently in Denver, a member of FRAG (Front Range Armored Group) and loving it. I grew up building models (mostly airplanes) as I'm sure many of us do and then moved to RC trucks. Tanks have always been a passion and a visit many years ago to the Patton museum sealed it. I'm looking forward to learning more and offering any tidbits of info I have picked up along the way.
Here is my current armor roster, all IR battlers with a long list of upgrades scheduled for the future:

Tamiya King Tiger
Tamiya Tiger 1 (next tear down and rebuild project)
Tamiya Pershing (in pieces for a complete rebuild)
Tamiya Sherman
HL Tiger 1/Sturmtiger project

Here are some pics!

Good evening!
One mile! Is that all? Welcome to the Forum! Thank you for the pics! We like to chat and kick the virtual road wheels around here. Any questions or arcane knowledge about armored vehicles you can spare will be more than welcome. I pass through Denver about once a month and used to hail from up I-25 in Firestone. I've yet to visit the FRAG field and after 38 yrs on the Front Range, that shame is all on me. Not too late so maybe next Spring. I'm trying to get my own small version of a tank village set up here at the new digs outside of Gardner, Co. We're at 7000+ so the sun is fierce on anything not ultra durable. I am thinking about cast concrete scale buildings which can be left empty over the Winter. Not too terribly much snow but the winds are ceaseless. Inside info on how you guys did it would be better than good. ;o)
regards and welcome again,
Painless

The only way the village and buildings survive is to store them in a shed when not in use. Not terribly efficient but the only way they survive. Everything else like bridges and pads for the buildings are concrete or metal. You should definitely stop by some time, it's a unique experience. Thanks for the warm welcome!

Welcome aboard from Detroit, a little closer to sea level. @)

I really like that Battlefield. It looks just great.
When FDR coined the phrase "The Arsenal of Democracy", he was talking about Detroit. Proud to live in the 2nd most violent city in America!!

Welcome mile high! Saw you had the snow already last weekend!

As far as I am concerned FRAG's field is in the top 3 in the world. 18 years in the making!

A few more shots of the town because I love pics too! All the credit goes to FRAG members before my appearance! Definitely one of the best playgrounds in the world.

Welcome and greetings from Savannah. GA, only 34' above the water line.

That is an awesome battle field, sure would be fun to operate on.

Cheers,
Barry
