Hello from somewhere near Finningley

Post by Redders50ish »

Hi I'm 48 and just started out in RC tanks, although I wanted to start 36 years ago! I started making Tamiya tank kits when I was 11, my first being a Sherman with two motors and a long wire and battery box training from it to steer! I then set my heart on the Tamiya RC Flakpanza Gepard, but couldn't save up enough pocket money, so ended up with the Tamiya RC Hornet off road buggy instead!

Since my teens I've dabbled with static kits on and off, but recently decided to look at RC tanks again - I enjoy tinkering with things, making things, painting, and collecting - so back to Tamiya RC tanks...still too expensive, but to my delight found Heng Long.

I've bought the Challenger 2, ordered a steel gearbox, constructed a speaker enclosure and have ordered a Visaton FR7 4 Ohm speakers to try. It's been totally stripped down and masked up ready for a repaint (paint due Monday) and I'm then looking at detailing further, and in due course full metal tracks.

I may then look at the Sherman, or the Tiger 1 (I never constructed one of those), or maybe both!

Already found loads of useful help on this forum - thanks to everyone who submits.

Welcome, not too far from the GLAD meet either: just north of Grantham.
