first update with pics TUSK 2 M1A6

hi all

finaly sat down to do the next build ....

Abrams M1A6 tusk 2 ...the full build oh no .......

i have two engine hobby m1's ... not bad at all could do with proper electrics ( not my thing ) and better gearboxes
road wheels // crap ....suspension arms .. crap ... sprockets .. crap ... tracks .. elastic band .. so crap too

so sat for a while .. and looked around at kenny kong tracks and wheels ... nice .. but how much .. so that was a non starter ....so just by pure luck .... came across a tam leo2 chassis from the static model ! £30 and its in top condition

so now working how to put the two together . easy! .. and the wheel arrangement close enough .

i have not done anything to the hull of the EH m1 .. but will take apart toingt and look at what wrong with it
and go form there

hi all

first update .. and the fitting of the tam leo hull to the EH M1 hull top ..

actualy quiet easy ... all i did was remove the ' rim ' that tamiya put round the lower hull top ..
then the EH M1 hull to just slips inside .... i added some extra plastic card just to tighten the fit ...
i will get pics of that tomorow as the light in the kitchen is too poor and the hull too dark ..

i then decided to look at the shape of the leo front ...again just a simple case of cutting plastic card to shape and correcting the angle .... took about 20 mins to do that ...

the HE hull rear .. is a totaly different story .... its a basket case ... the M1 rear engine vents are a complete
nightmare ... and took 7 hours just to get the basic shape right ... constant checking of pics .. measureing and remeasureing befour cutting ....
i found the best way to tackel this was to look at the engine vents at the back and break them down in to a set of 3 different size boxes
made the boxes .. then added basic detail of the lover vents .... and glues all 3 boxes together ..to get a basic shape .....

then i created the angled shape that come down form the top of the M1's hull to the top of the engine vents
at this point it all starts to come togeher ....
now the engine vents as thay stand right now .. are just the first layer of basic detail ... i still have to figure out how to make the outer bar mesh that stops folk putting goodies in to the back of the vents .... oh joy ?

any way lets shut up here and do the pics ....

Hi Iain, been wondering about the method you use to cut the plasticard sheets? I have an old paper cutting board with the knife blade edge cutting handle, this works well for many cuts, but alot of what you do seems small yet cut very straight, what's the secrete? Or do you just have a very steady hand?
