Heng Long Leopard 2A6

Post by Bogeyman »

Hi Tankers, well this will be my first post with pictures so please be kind.

Following on from my recent posts with Brizo58 (Brian) regarding Watersons brass gear boxes fitting in a HLL2, Brian asked me to post some pics of my build, not that its outstanding in any way more of a quick walk around, have a look inside, he has just bought one, as I have now sealed up the battery compartment and have removed it completely. its still work in progress, exterior details to do, all internals are now done, it runs and sounds awesome.

a quick walk around first before I take the lid off.

Sorted out those awful looking LEDs in the headlights.

Metal tracks, idlers, drive sprockets, road wheels these are really nice, removable tyres sealed bearings, also come with uprated springs and metal suspension arms, some stowage added.

Just some stowage on turret baskets, I also drilled out everyone of the turret baskets with a 1.5mm drill to make it look mesh, and then I cover it up so you cant see it, I know it took me 3 weeks on and off !

Nothing much to report, bit more stowage, you can see wash applied to just bring it down a bit.

Better view of sorted headlights, the observant will have noticed I have taken all of the track rubber pads off! I have tried everything I can think of to keep them on including 2 different types of glue, in the end I just took the lot off, then sulked, but this may be worse on my tank because of the 480 motors I have installed, extra torque being the culprit, I am still pondering what to do, the Leo runs fine with out the rubber pads, but it does not look as good when they were fitted, it was pretty close to the real deal, so I will look for an alternative track.

Battery compartment now gone, upper hull now held in place with 2 tabs on rear hull and magnets.

All switches are now inside, 4 in total power on/off, smoker on/off, bind for tx, program Clarks board, its so much easier, also installed Clarks DC to DC booster board and amplifier, this works amazing, it will get everyone's attention when it comes alive.

15w Visaton FRWS7, speaker, the mount is glued to the sides of the lower hull it adds a lot of strength and prevents flexing as the upper and lower hulls are no longer screwed together.

Apologies this one is a little blurry, I just wanted to show the plasticard glued to upper hull for locating the 2 tabs on rear hull, I will of course paint this as well the speaker mount.

Brian,

Used a junior hacksaw to cut them in half/ish so they would fit in surrounds, then cut thin plastic clear for the new lens, lightly score with knife.

Yea will do that  the way HL has done them a bit strange. Will also look at using the Clark board. Never used one before! Must find out what I need to go over to that system plus will add some weight to it. It's sitting a bit too high but that will be the last thing I do wait till all the mods are done then see how she sits. By the way where are the magnets fitted at the front!!. Brian...

Brian, if you look at the the PIC of the visaton, all magnets are glued into the recess of the lower posts, 8 in total, then cut the depth of magnet plus a few mm from screw hole in upper deck, then using screws they can be adjusted until it sits right on lower hull. And the magnets do there job, it takes a few mins of adjusting the screws, but once your happy lock screws with a drop of cyna.

Next job for this beast is to finish the exterior bits and bobs, then I want to fit IR battle system, but first I need to get a hang of the 480 Motors, so much torque.
