Make rusty, but thoroughly used tracks the easy way

Post by Jay-Em »

For those that like tracks to look rusty, but not completely, and also like they have been used, not just been sitting there, there’s this little painting trick :

Spray paint them with (fake) Terracotta paint, like Krylon fusion, or something. I use the Stilleven brand over here.
It’s close to the real colour of rust, dries super flat, and wears nicely on the parts that move.

On the black plastic tracks, the effect is even more convincing.

For an even better result, let it dry thoroughly, and freely brush highly diluted black on it (called a ‘wash’ by the more experienced modelers. )

Easy, quick, and can be done éven by those that are not that experienced in weathering and painting.
Oh, and it foregoes dangerous chemicals usually necessary for a convincing rust effect.
