Dragon 1.6 scale plastic wheels.
Dragon 1.6 scale plastic wheels.
Hi, I am hoping to convert a 1:6 scale dragon panzer 2 to rc. I have looked at the wheels and wonder if there is a better way of producing them that are stronger and would give a better ride to the model. I have looked at the price of aluminium bar for the wheels but that’s just to exspensive, much the same in any other metal. I was also thinking of making the road tires out of dilren. I am going to fit a small roller bearing inside the wheel to improve things. Anyone have any ideas, thanks, michael

The way forward would be to 3D print them, you could have bearings & rubber tyres.
We’d just need some kind soul with some spare time to design them for us.
I could get some alli laser cut for the sprockets if a cad file was available

Hi, yes I can 3d print them with the bearing in place, will have. Ago tomorrow at drawing them out.

Hi, I am aiming for a bearing wheel set of lower hull, and one mid centre of wheel. That should balance the load.

Hi Terry,
Pic below is of one of Alwyn’s wheels for his 1/6 Bren gun carrier, it’s split in half down the middle to ensure a good external finish & there is a bearing in each side, I really wouldn’t recommend a single bearing in a 1/6 scale wheel, the forces involved are much higher than 1/16

Thanks for pic, there will be two roller bearings per wheel axle. This will give me a bearing surface of 12mm which is more then enough for the weight and balance of the model. I printed off a test wheel last night and will have a play around once I have cut out the tires. There is space for a third bearing if needed but I don’t think it will be.time may proof me wrong.

Hi Terry, hehe 3 bearings would be overkill, it will be interesting to see how you get on with these

Hi, I printed off a test wheel last night. I now need to wait until the Delfin turns up to machine the tire. I think that two roller bearings will be find.

You could always print the tyres with TPU
