Re: My Heng Long M1A2 Abrams.
"The silvering is atrocious , is there a simple way to hide or disguise it?" Simple "Nothing simple is ever easy." Your Abrams is otherwise really great!
1) Can you get the decals off? I use ELO "Easy Lift Off," a decal remover by Testor's, available here in the US. There are probably other brands available in Australia. (I betcha Hermann Bix knows.) I have managed to get decals off by carefully putting the ELO just on the surface of the decal and rubbing lightly with a cotton swab as soon as I get a bit of lift doing so, leaving the underlying paint undamaged. At worst the paint will have to be touched up.
2a) For the best results, I recommend Rad Schuhart's paint stencils.
2b) However If only decals will work, I put a gloss coat under the place where the decal will go, cut the decal out as closely as possible to the image (leaving minimal clear film). When the clear gloss is dry, I apply a diluted setting solution where the decal will go, then apply the decal, using more setting solution if the decal will not sit down snugly. When all that is dry, I spray over the decal with a flat coat.

Thanks mates.
Yeah, nah , the decals aren't coming off Proff'.
I'll just have to live with it , if I don't put my glasses on to look at it I can't even see it.
