Jnewboy Customs ~ 1/16 King Tiger - Ardennes - sPzAbt 501

Post by Jnewboy »

The chassis is Henglong and the Turret is Tamiya. I removed all the guts from the Henglong turret and fit them into the Tamiya. Got the turret rotating and then started the paint process. I like the blue numbers and the tri-color pea dot camo. I was tempted to do Piepers red 204 but I did not like the red numbers on the camo.

First-class weathering  The snow (real or fake?) certainly gave me a chill too. If that's simulated snow, as I suspect, how's it done?
What controller do you have in there, the TK 6.0 series?

Its not real snow! :haha:

Very simple to make, mix white elmers glue with Woodland Scenics snow until it is like thin toothpaste, then apply it in places snow would collect which is tricky (no slopes as it would run off that) then once its in place and you are happy sprinkle some Woodland Scenics snow over the top before it can dry giving it a frozen look. Once totally dry (5hrs) use compressed air and an old toothbrush to remove loose excess snow.

Work in sections, take your time and reference photos to see where snow collects. My advice is to do less snow than you think you want, and in the end you can always add more, to much of anything is bad. Watch your RC functions as you dont want to block turret rotation & track movement. Avoid putting it on the engine deck as most Panzers kept the engine going in cold weather in combat situations and so that area would be warm (no snow). 8)

Wowie Zowie! That looks great--and the snow is a crowning touch. Thanks for the advice on the snow technique, too.
