I had two M113 APC models in process when I started this thread and today I finally made some progress on APC #2. I got some money and time in that first one as that metal gearbox cost $90. I know that sounds like a lot and it is but that is the reason this model is so smooth is because of that High Q gearbox. Also it allows very low power requirements as you can see at the bottom of page 1 of this thread.

This one has a gearbox from a 1/64 scale Tiger that I parted out for this project. The radio system in that Tiger did not age well and decided it was time recycle its gearbox into something else....M113 APC #2.

APC #1 has twin 140-RH Mabuchi motors which are have a round shape and are physically larger than the 130 motors in APC #2.

Testing of APC #2 in progress now tuning the setup. The track tension on #2 is much higher which results in more current draw. this is required for those drive sprockets to work properly with the stock Tamiya tracks.

I had to shorten both tracks by 2 links to get the proper tension. Normally the gearbox slides forward\backward to adjust tension but this gearbox does not have that feature. It is a lot easier to use a stock Tamiya gearbox in this APC but they are very expensive. To get one you have to buy a vintage Tamiya motorized remote control kit.

This particular Tamiya model was available as a "motorized" kit (very rare) but not as a dual motor remote control kit. I have a SM motorized gearbox that will fit this APC but I prefer dual motor control. After looking at these SM gearboxes, I feel it would be very difficult to convert one to DM.

Update...Figured out how to use a scale drive sprocket like a facia. It is only on the outside of the drive sprocket like a facia but it actually engages the track and now no slippage at all.

Gearbox trimmed down to fit the M113. I wire all my 1/35 gear boxes this way with male 1.25 micro JST connectors.

Hi modler, I realise that these are in the UK, but they are cheap and plentiful with international shipping available: https://www.componentshop.co.uk/140-dc-motor.html

I've got 4x being delivered for £8.15 in total!

Hey thanks for that Link jimbo_wa. I did find some 140 China motors (3.2 ohms) that work OK. I need to update this thread as I have done a lot of work to both these APC models. I changed the slow 140 motors (20 ohms!) to the 2.3 ohm and I had to add a 5 ohms resistor (now 7.3 ohms) to each motor to impedance match the RX I am using and now it has much better speed and is where I want it.

On the second APC, I redid the sprockets to stock and they work much better now. Redid the plastic gearbox gearbox and it is about as good as it is going to get. It will runs off a 2 cell nicad now where before it needed 4 cells and was very jerky.

This screw allows the modified scale sprockets as they come with the static model to now work with the plastic gearbox and are easily removable.

Static APC sprockets on APC #2 have been redone and are now work as good as a set of motorized sprockets.

I used a set of these new 2.3 ohm motors with a 5 ohm resistor in series to (7.3 ohm) and now the APC has decent speed. see video above

In my spare time I managed to get decals set on both of my APC models. I now have two M113 APC models. I am having some issues with resizing the images to the limit set here. As soon as I figure it out I will post both models. Both are RRC.

This is my first post in a good while, Been working too much like everyone else lol. :)

Oh, I have since trimmed the axle length on the one where the axles extended beyond the sprocket. That has since been corrected. Also skirts added to both models.

Here is a short M113 APC video. In this video, a MTM circuit board is used along with a Cell phone used for the TX and controller.
