GANTRY CRANE PLUS ACCESSORIES.
Long time since I posted anything, I have been building, on and off.
One thing I have made to go with our tank open days is a gantry crane and some accessories.
The crane is a kids tower crane that I picked up from a charity shop, it was broken but this was fine as I always intended it be changed into a gantry crane. The feet are from an old toy the neighbours were throwing out-I of course liberated after asking first Some plasticard used, old motors etc, the whole thing has weights in the feet to keep it stable in windy conditions.
The mobile generator is a old jeep chassis, cut and adapted, with old speaker boxes reutilised as the main housing, spares from the tank and other model parts from the bits-bins were used.
I found some of them CO2 cartridges and used them as welding bottles, the pipework is old plug fittings and some metal pins with a PIII small light as a gauge, the welding torch is the end of a bicycle pump adapter cut down, the flame is a small white wire with some epoxy mixed with Tamiya clear.
The two figures are in the same uniform so just a repaint and they serve as mechanics.

Nice to see you again Eddie Very impressive work especially the recycled bits and of course the subject matter. Some imagination and ingenuity and you have a great piece.
Reminds me of some late war possibly 46' what if scene to me, like one of my paper panzers ( my Jagdsturmtiger) would be right at home....

You have managed to create an excellent model, just goes to show what an active imagination and modelling skills can achieve.

Thank you, really do appreciate it. My disability has gotten worse (now have COPD) so modelling is even more slower but, it helps in keeping body and mind together...even if it takes three months I get there in the end.wibblywobbly wrote:You have managed to create an excellent model, just goes to show what an active imagination and modelling skills can achieve.

Excelent job! I am jaleous, because I was studying the idea of making my own gantry crane and I did not know where to start.

Hi mate, many thanks for the lovely comment.Rad_Schuhart wrote:Excelent job! I am jaleous, because I was studying the idea of making my own gantry crane and I did not know where to start.
Congrats!
The crame I managed to get was this one: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dickie-20346 ... SwSw1ckkDi
Expensive, (I managed to get mine for £8 from a charity job, granted it didn't work) but it gave me the height clearance when the main frame parts were fastened down, I was toying with using either a swivel set of boogies with tyred wheels (there is a German mobile crane that all folds down that is like this) but, I wanted a more permanent structure. The other idea was to fasten down the two uprights on Play-mobile G-scale train flat beds and then get some track so that it could slide back and forth-G-scale, even Play-mobile Iis expensive though.
