My Panther G

Post by Sub »

Hi Chaps,
A few pics of my Panther G, not finished yet still waiting to make a few more details/ finish painting etc.
A question if I may has anyone any info on the markings for the Panther G in Normandy as the only info I can find is that they had the German cross on either side of the Hull right at the front by / under the track shackle info appears very sparse on this type of tank, any info would be appreciated.
regards
Sub.

I believe Panthers were very sparse with markings, I found this picture on Wikipedia.

This one has a cross on the rear.

Hi Wardog./ Son of a Gunner
Thx for looking, this is what i have been coming up against even WW2 archive photos shows very little other than the crosses.
At least it will be quick to put them on.
Cheers

If you look closely at this, you can make out the helmet marking to the left of the tactical number. And, right at the front of the tank, you can make out a very faded cross.

The position of the cross tended to depend on the factory it came from, especially in late war.

If you are wanting a G model in Normandy you will have to change a lot on the Heng Long - loose the chin mantlet, cut away the horseshoe on the top of the turret, add zimmerit, change the exhausts, change the idlers, loose the crew heater over the left hand side rad fan...
Sometimes its just easier to make a generic one, tbh.

Hi.
Thx for the research Son of a Gunner its about as much as i need, i will just go for the crosses.
Tiger6 i will just go for the generic Panther, i am not such a rivet counter to go that far, as long as the paint scheme looks ok that will be enough for me.
Thx to all

If you ever want to get serious about the Panther, try to get your hands on this book:

Be warned - between this book and the 'Duel in the Mist' series I seem to have acquired rather a lot of 'cats'... 8O
