The first trial into Garden Railways for me, i was making a small setup to test and have a play, but also so i could get my father into the hobby.
My father has always spoken of a garden railway, although i think he would love to really have a ride on setup!

Anyway i decided that since all our models are 1/16 (mainly) i would try downloading a 16mm diesel loco off thingiverse.
This worked very well, but i wasn't happy with the drivetrain.

So a couple nights ago i set about making a dual motor mount setup which could take 2s & 3s lipo to power a little narrow gauge train.

This morning i setup some cheap plastic 45mm rail in my parents garden and then gifted this little narrow gauge loco to my father.
He loved it, and has now asked for some rolling stock, he has to go any buy himself a rail track layout now haha!

So 1st indoor test on Friday evening (3s lipo)

Also the first outdoor test with the track unsecured laying on the grass (2s lipo)

My Dad was driving this time and had a huge grin on his face

The drive unit is mounted on a rubber isolator pad and screwed into the body so it has some flex and give and isolation for noises.

Next job is to get a sound unit setup for it and get some rolling stock.

I am not great and paint work, thats where my wife excels. But i was very pleased to design and get this put together for my father.
More Narrow gauge to come for sure as i would like something to be able to cart around my various 1/16 models in the garden.
Need to find some WW2 narrow gauge locos to draw up for correct era

How about the "Romney Hythe and Dymchurch" Narrow Gauge Railway's Armoured Train of WW2 that patrolled the Kent coast at the time of the feared invasion of England in 1940 ?

Will, you put a smile on my dial.

So glad you could make your Dad happy.

On a side note, did you know the Russian word for train station is vokzal. Sounds rather like Vauxhall doesn't it...

An English theatre manager, Michael Maddox had experience of running theatres in Russia and he decided to export the concept of the pleasure garden in Vauxhall London, to St Petersburg in the 1780s. The new St Petersburg pleasure garden was called ‘Vokzal’, after the location of the London gardens.

In 1837 the first Russian railway ran from St Petersburg to the Pleasure Gardens and the station was called ‘Vokzal’. And this name became the generic word for all Russian stations. Coincidentally, three years later, a Russian delegation arrived to study the UK rail network. One of the stations they visited was the then Vauxhall terminus.

By the way Andy, love all your videos recently, you have posted alot and we have enjoyed watching them :)

I am working on some new Narrow Gauge locos to play with, some 1930/40s era to link up with the rest of our German stuff. Also a Tin Turtle on its way
