Jim,

I was just thinking about this project of yours the other day. I'd go for the bathtub sea trial test too! A glass of whiskey, some quality smokes, bubbles, rubber duckies, candles maybe...the whole nine yards! I mean if your going to do it, why not do it?!? :D Rubber duckie....

Cheers,
Eric

P.S.
Did you feel the earthquake the other day? 8O

Wish I had a shot glass that big!
I didn’t feeling the quake as I was passed out in my recliner.

Okay. Slow going but I am moving forward. I’ve applied automotive body filler to the hull and I’ve started the sanding process. Maybe a little overkill but want this to be rock solid. Still have to add filler to the stern area underneath where the pink foam is visible. The rudders are good and solid and ready to be linked up to my two big servos. Steady as she goes!

Most years, Jim, up here it would need to be an ice boat around Christmas Day. This year is weird. :wtf: By this time most years I am driving the tractor around backward with the roll bar brushing low-hanging, snow-laden tree branches, perfectly aimed between the collar and hat, directly at the back of my neck. :O This year, I haven't even put the snow blower on the tractor. (Talk about pushing my luck...!) Nonetheless, look at those uncovered autumn leaves: just how far south of the Wisconsin/Flatlander state border are you?

Southern tip of Illinois. It was over 70 degrees on Christmas! Incredible.

What are you going to seal the Bondo with mate? That stuff is hydroscopic so won’t cope with extended periods of immersion.

More fiberglass cloth and two part resin. Learning as I go and all that. Hell, I probably should have left it alone after sheathing the hull with styrene and the first layer of fiberglass cloth. Oh well.

I had to look up the definition for "Hydroscopy".

"Hydroscopy is the practice of viewing objects underwater".
Tank under water
Tank under water
Herman surely meant Hygroscopy: "Hygroscopy is the ability of a substance to attract and hold water molecules from the surrounding environment. This is achieved through either absorption or adsorption with the absorbing or adsorbing material becoming physically changed somewhat, by an increase in volume, stickiness, or other physical characteristic of the material, as water molecules become suspended between the material's molecules in the process.

According to CollisionRepairMag.com: "Talc in body filler is hygroscopic, meaning it readily absorbs water. Don't leave a vehicle in damp conditions with exposed body filler. Moisture could get absorbed and give you big problems later in the repair."

Thanks Herman. I did not know that. No wonder the repair i did on my Ford Maverick 76 as a student did not last one Canadian winter.

Right on, Herman! Now I’m in business.
