Me 109 1:18 21st. Rc street conversion

Post by xhelfix »

Hey,

ist not realy an RC aircraft, but also a bit of it

Some jears ago i often was thinking it will be great to have an "rolling" Airplane for the palyground.
So i make it happen with a Me 109 fom 21first in 1:18.

2x N20 geramotors and one for the propeller did the job.
And a steering servo at the back.
Its not made to last hunderst of kilometers, but for some vids oder just as a funny thing.

Very nice! Everything looks realistic including the ground equipment and figures. Very believable. My Tiger would love to patrol around on that playground.

Oh, come on Andy!

What else are you going to come up with next?!? You have taken things to another level with this one! Very, very creative! I would think that your last "playground" is nearly forgotten? In reality, I'm sure it's still bittersweet. Simply amazing!

Cheers,
Eric.

I'm curious - was the propellor not up to the job of dragging the plane around, or did you use 2 motors on the wheels so that you could help steer with them? Or did the prop work, but it caused the plane to 'trip over' when running over rough ground because of the relatively small diameter wheels?

Plane is too heavy probably. In this scale to make it be pushed by propeller it have to be made of light material like balsa wood. Plus to be able to steer, the rudder have to be controllable.

Looking good

As for your question Martin, running RC plane over that rough ground with that size of plane, it would be a nightmare. I can see why done with the direct drive motors.
All my tail draggers (sorry 2 front wheels and dragging tail small wheel) rc planes used to tip easily on rough terrain on taxi and take off, so always had to fit larger wheels
Some of the planes it was just easier to hand launch on power. Although i would say i always had more success with tail draggers than others with a triangle setup with front nose wheel, they always used to dig in on rough ground and unsettle the wing
