I always wanted to build a Ludwig Cromwell.
But then Hooben got in the way...
Recently I was able to buy a largely assembled Ludwig kit on eBay:
But there was still a lot to do...
First the model had to be cleaned, it was very dusty.
Then I changed the turret drive and the bearing to ball bearings:
I ordered some parts from Shapeways:
many more small details had to be added
The chassis was still with HL-Tiger swing arms and very wobbly.
I ordered the milled aluminium swing arms from Christian Ludwig:
First testfit looks good...
For the idler wheel i 3d-printed a new one
I used a modified Tiger I track tensioner from Henntec
Gearbox is a PDSGB from Forgebear for the T-34
Here I have changed the gear ratio in the toothed belt drive
The axle shafts were additionally supported
One Cromwell is never enough..

Re: One Cromwell is never enough..
Nice! Ludwig's sprocket is made to fit Taigen/HL Pazner III/IV tracks?
Re: One Cromwell is never enough..
The next step was the wheels
these were converted to ball bearings, painted and the rubber bandages put on
Headlights were created in 3d printing, protective bars bent and mounted
Here is the Ludwig and Hooben Cromwell side by side
the storage boxes have been closed and locks fitted
Handles and details mounted and painted on the engine deck
Handles attached to the turret and painted
Testfit the turret and upper hull
the whole cromwell is currently painted,
pictures will be available soon
Thanks for looking

at the last picture you can see it
Re: One Cromwell is never enough..
Very good build an beautiful model.
Not sure if it is an illusion but the Hooben model (hull and turret) seems much lower than the Ludwig model. Have you determined which one is right ?
It’s also the first time that I realize how similar the Cromwell turret is compared to the Churchill MK III turret.
Regards, Louis

Re: One Cromwell is never enough..
The Ludwig Cromwell is a little bit to high, because there is no electronic, batterie, speaker etc. installed.
